On Monday, December 15th, the council approved a 6.96% property tax levy increase for 2026. This was a decrease from the preliminary tax levy increase of 9.44%. Curbside cleanup will be back in 2026. The program is offered every other year and allows residents to dispose of certain large or hard to manage items that are not accepted through regular trash pickup. On their assigned Saturday, participants may place a limited quantity of appliances and bulky trash at the curb for collection. For additional details, visit the link on your screen. Bloomington residents are giving their city high marks. The 2025 National Community Survey highlights strong approval for parks, recycling, snow removal, and drinking water. Police, crimerevention, and animal control ratings are up from 2024, and access to health and mental health services has rebounded above the national average. Residents also praise the city's sense of community, inclusivity, and economic opportunities. This is the 14th year Bloomington has participated in the survey. Full results can be seen at blm.n/servey. Bloomington Parks and Recreation Manager Anthony Dyello was recently honored by the Bloomington Athletic Association. He received the 2025 Sam Hansen Award for his exceptional support of BAA programs and the families they serve. Anthony stepped in during staff absences, helped train volunteer umpires, and even filled in as an emergency umpire during a playoff game, keeping events running smoothly.
