[0:01] - My name's Rodney Whalen, [0:02] and I'm a fire captain [0:03] and a paramedic with Bloomington Fire. [0:04] And we do more than fire. [0:06] We also do EMS as well. [0:08] (upbeat music) [0:20] Another thing that we do typically [0:21] is in cardiac emergencies, [0:24] or people that are in cardiac arrests, [0:27] we're able to take their airways [0:28] and breathe for them when they're unable [0:29] to breathe for themselves. [0:30] So we'll just demonstrate here. [0:32] We typically train at our fire stations on how we do that. [0:35] So Alec's gonna breathe there with the BVM. [0:38] Then I'm gonna take our UEScope here. [0:41] And what's cool about this UEScope, [0:42] it's able to record what we do [0:44] and we can also give ourselves feedback [0:46] on if we miss intubations and we can practice, [0:48] so we can get better at it. [0:49] And I'm gonna have Alec remove the BVM. [0:51] Basically, I'm trying to get my tube into the trachea [0:53] so I can take the airway and breathe for the patient [0:56] when they're down. [0:57] Now that we have our airway secure, [0:58] we're gonna listen to lung sounds [1:00] and make sure we don't have air in our stomach. [1:03] Here at Bloomington Fire, [1:04] it's important for us to stay consistent on our trainings [1:06] because seconds matter [1:08] when it comes to saving someone's life.
