[0:00] (uplifting music) (indistinct chatter) [0:02] - We have some examples of what to write. [0:04] We're doing a Veteran's Day service project. [0:06] So we're making cards for veterans, [0:08] and we're trying to make over 400 cards in total. [0:11] - As a Community Outreach and Engagement Coordinator, [0:13] when I work with different groups, in this case, veterans, [0:16] I always like to ask like, [0:17] "How do you wanna be honored or respected?" [0:20] And for the veterans that I know that I spoke to, [0:22] they always say, you know, "A simple thank you means a lot." [0:25] This year I approached the Jefferson High School students. [0:28] I said, "We're doing this Veterans Appreciation event [0:30] and I need 400 thank you letters." [0:33] And they're like, "Yes, we'd love to do it!" [0:35] - My family has a big history in the Air Force, [0:38] and so my grandpa was a commander. [0:41] My uncle is a lieutenant, and so they have a lot of service. [0:46] - These personal letters that they're writing to veterans, [0:49] like, I have veterans in my family. [0:51] I know that they can be really appreciated [0:54] by the people who receive them. [0:55] Like, watching them doing all these, [0:57] like, handwriting things and writing these personal notes. [0:59] I just can imagine that someone getting something like that [1:02] would feel appreciated. (uplifting music continues) [1:04] - [Abby] And when I go out anywhere [1:06] with my uncle or my grandpa, [1:08] they always thank people for their service. [1:10] And so I see the impact it has on veterans, [1:13] and I think it's a really nice thing to do [1:14] to thank them for their service, [1:15] and I think they deserve more appreciation.
