Bloomington launches welcome program for new residents

The Bloomington City Council introduced a new Welcome to Bloomington Program designed to help newcomers settle into the community. The initiative, developed with input from residents and community partners, offers resources and events to help new renters and homeowners get oriented to the city.

The Welcome to Bloomington Program launched this year as a coordinated effort to greet and support people moving to the city. The program was created collaboratively by city staff, residents, and community partners who identified a need to help newcomers feel at home.

The program offers several resources to help new residents explore and understand Bloomington. These include a "Welcome to Bloomington Bucket List" — a guide to popular local attractions and activities — as well as welcome bags containing city information. The bags are available for pickup at Civic Plaza during business hours.

Beyond printed materials, the program organizes biweekly meetings for new residents held at various locations throughout the city. These gatherings give newcomers a chance to meet each other and learn more about community resources and opportunities.

The initiative targets both renters and homeowners, recognizing that people moving to Bloomington come from different housing situations. By providing multiple ways to connect — through printed guides, welcome bags, and in-person meetings — the program aims to make the transition to living in Bloomington smoother and help new residents build connections to their community.
