Entrepreneurs Present Nordic Bathhouse Concept to City

Meeting date: Jul 17, 2025
Published Aug 23, 2025

Dave and Diana Acriman presented their business concept Bastu Bloomington to city officials, proposing a Nordic-inspired bathhouse offering contrast therapy services to the community.

The couple described their vision for a facility featuring cold plunge pools at various temperatures, saunas, a communal hot tub and rain head showers. Dave Acriman said the concept emerged from recognizing how daily stressors from work and technology, combined with parenting responsibilities, affected their quality of sleep and overall well-being.

The entrepreneurs have already launched a mobile trailer version of their concept while developing plans for a permanent brick-and-mortar location. They are currently offering free popup sessions throughout the month at various local venues to introduce the community to their services.

Bastu Bloomington will compete in the Hatch 2025 Bloomington competition on August 6, where the Acrimans hope to earn community support for their business venture.

The presentation did not include specific details about proposed locations, timeline for permanent facility development, or regulatory requirements for the bathhouse concept.

Presentation: Boston Bloomington - Nordic Inspired Bath House

No action taken; informational presentation.

Dave Acriman, co-founder of Boston Bloomington, introduced the vision for a Nordic-inspired bath house in Bloomington designed to offer contrast therapy. The facility would include various temperatures of cold plunges, saunas, a communal hot tub, and rain head showers. Acriman explained the therapeutic benefits for stress and weariness, noting their current mobile trailer offering these features and their plan to compete in the Hatch 2025 Bloomington competition.

That's why we're bringing a contrast therapy sanctuary to Bloomington. We'll be offering a variety of temperatures of cold plunge, a variety of temperatures of saunas, a communal hot tub, and rain head showers.

[0:00] Hey everyone, my name is Dave Acriman

[0:02] and together with my wife Diana, we're

[0:03] the founders of Boston Bloomington, a

[0:05] modern twist on a Nordic inspired bath

[0:07] house. Now, we started to realize years

[0:10] ago that whether we spent our day behind

[0:12] the wheel of a car, on the road, uh

[0:15] hunched over a computer or on our feet,

[0:17] we ended the day feeling stressed and

[0:19] worn out. Now, combine that with staring

[0:21] at screens all day, and in our case, two

[0:23] young sons, quality sleep became pretty

[0:26] rare. That's why we're bringing a

[0:28] contrast therapy sanctuary to

[0:31] Bloomington. We'll be offering a variety

[0:33] of temperatures of cold plunge, a

[0:34] variety of temperatures of saunas, a

[0:36] communal hot tub, and rain head showers.

[0:39] So, we think there'll be something for

[0:40] everyone. Now, we were so excited about

[0:42] this concept that we couldn't wait for

[0:44] the brick and mortar. So, we created a

[0:45] mobile trailer offering a few of these

[0:47] features. If you want to come and try it

[0:48] out, we'll be offering free popups all

[0:50] month long at your favorite spots.

[0:53] August 6, we'll be competing in the

[0:55] Hatch 2025 Bloomington competition. Um,

[0:58] and we hope to earn your vote.
