Bloomington residents have several options for disposing of bulky items during 2025, an odd-numbered year when curbside cleanup service is not available, according to the city's latest public information update.

The city partners with nonprofit Better Futures Minnesota to provide monthly collection of reusable and recyclable bulky items at no extra cost to residents. Acceptable items include furniture, rugs, mattresses, large appliances, home fixtures, building materials, bicycles, grills and tools. Furniture, rugs, home fixtures and building materials must be in good working condition, while mattresses, large appliances, bikes and grills can be collected in any condition for recycling.

Residents can also utilize the Hennepin County Problem Waste Drop Off Center located in Bloomington, which accepts electronics, hazardous waste and extra recyclables. The city offers bulky item pickup year-round for a fee through Utility Billing, and hosts an annual recycling drop-off event each fall.

The city also highlighted its safe swap spot at Bloomington Civic Plaza, located in the parking lot near the police department entrance or inside the police department lobby Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. The monitored location is designed for public transactions including online purchases and custody exchanges.

The Bloomington Police Department recently launched an Instagram account to provide engaging and informative content to residents, joining the city's existing social media presence.
