Bloomington Seeks Input on Sidewalk Snow Removal Changes
The City of Bloomington is requesting public feedback on proposed changes to its sidewalk snow removal operations that would reduce plowing routes on low-volume residential streets.
The city began public engagement in March through the Let's Talk Bloomington online forum, virtual open houses and in-person events to discuss adjustments to sidewalk snowplowing routes. The proposed changes aim to improve winter walking conditions and better align sidewalk clearing operations with street plowing schedules.
Under the proposal, certain sidewalk plowing routes on low-volume residential roads would be shortened to achieve completion times comparable to street plowing. The city would also enforce the existing ordinance requiring property owners to clear sidewalks adjacent to their properties.
Residents can review the proposed route map and provide feedback through the city's online engagement platform. The City Council is scheduled to decide on the proposed route reduction in July.
Separately, the city announced the Kites and Bites Festival will take place Saturday, June 7, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Valley View Playfields, located at 90th Street and Portland Avenue South. The event will feature music, food trucks and kite flying, with free kites available to children 18 and younger while supplies last.
