[0:20] the latest news in Bloomington In April

[0:22] the city recognized and celebrated

[0:24] volunteers It kicked off with a

[0:27] proclamation read by Mayor Busy

[0:29] recognizing April 20th through the 26th

[0:31] as volunteer recognition

[0:34] [Music]

[0:36] week And on April 29th the city hosted

[0:39] its annual volunteer appreciation event

[0:42] where attendees enjoyed dinner live

[0:44] music and small gifts of appreciation

[0:47] Bloomington has about 1,000 volunteers

[0:50] people who have a wide range of

[0:51] backgrounds and abilities They serve on

[0:53] boards and commissions help with

[0:55] sustainability efforts support the arts

[0:58] and so much more Volunteering to me

[1:00] means giving back to the community

[1:04] helping out The arts are very very

[1:06] important and I feel strongly about

[1:10] supporting the arts It just makes you

[1:13] feel good Um when somebody comes in you

[1:16] give them a nice smile They may have a

[1:19] bad day and all of a

[1:21] sudden they smile back That warms my

[1:24] heart I just have always been passionate

[1:26] about

[1:27] sustainability and just trying to like

[1:30] help our environment Not only like make

[1:33] it good for like people now like the

[1:35] people I care about that live in

[1:37] Bloomington now but also like future

[1:39] generations to come Did you want to

[1:41] check off wants to receive the

[1:43] proclamation now

[1:45] some four-legged volunteers recently

[1:47] graced the halls of Civic Plaza for

[1:49] National Therapy Animal Day on April

[1:51] 30th And whereas Pet Partners therapy

[1:54] animal teams in the city of Bloomington

[1:56] play an essential role in improving

[1:58] human health and well-being through the

[2:00] human animal bond And whereas pet

[2:03] partners therapy animal teams make

[2:05] millions of visits per year in settings

[2:06] such as hospitals nursing homes schools

[2:09] and hospice And whereas pet partners

[2:12] therapy animal teams interact with a

[2:13] variety of people in our community

[2:15] including veterans seniors patients

[2:18] students facing literacy challenges and

[2:20] those approaching end of life And

[2:22] whereas these exceptional therapy

[2:24] animals who partner with their human

[2:26] companions bring comfort and healing to

[2:28] those in need Did you know May is
