Staff researched the existing commission and did not find a prior name change of the commission. The commissions do not have bylaws but run based on the establishing resolution. Staff have discussed ways to streamline the establishment of resolutions and create individual bylaws for each commission; however, staffing shortages have prevented this from being done. Below are the term limits for each commission. Cultural and Public Arts Commission – 2 years ## Community Safety and Violence Prevention Commission – 2 years Finance Commission – 3 years Housing Commission – 3 years Parks & Recreation Commission – 3 years Planning Commission – 2 years Sister City – 5 years Below is the background that was provided at the May 26, 2026, Council meeting: On March 20, 2025, the Cultural & Public Arts Commission unanimously approved a motion to amend Commissioner terms from two (2) years to three (3) years. This recommendation aligns with standard municipal practices and supports continuity, institutional knowledge, and effective governance. Implementation requires amending the Establishing Resolution. On June 5, 2025, the Commission reached consensus to recommend a name change to better reflect the scope of its work: Art, Beautification, and Culture (ABC) Commission.
