With recent ICE activities talked [0:10] about within the region, I know there is [0:13] concern and uncertainty in parts of our [0:14] community. I want to speak to that [0:16] directly. The Brooklyn Center Police [0:19] Department is focused on local public [0:20] safety. We are not an immigration [0:23] enforcement agency. We do not [0:26] participate in civil immigration [0:28] enforcement. We do not operate as an [0:31] extension of ICE. Our officers do not [0:34] ask about immigration status during [0:36] calls for service and we do not detain [0:38] individuals solely for suspected civil [0:41] immigration violations. Our job is to [0:44] respond to emergencies, prevent crime, [0:46] and protect people in crisis. And that [0:48] responsibility applies to everyone in [0:50] our community, regardless of immigration [0:53] status. Public safety only works when [0:55] people feel safe calling 911, reporting [0:58] crimes, and asking for help without [1:00] fear. If fear prevents people from [1:02] reaching out, everyone is less safe. [1:05] That's why we are clear about our role, [1:07] our limits, and our commitment to this [1:08] community. We are here to serve. We are [1:12] here to protect. We are here to protect [1:14] the vulnerable from harm. And we are [1:17] here for all of Brooklyn Center. Until [1:20] next week, stay safe.
