[0:01] [music]
[0:04] I'm currently assigned to our patrol
[0:05] division as well as our SWAT team.
[0:07] [music] My primary role is a night shift
[0:09] patrol officer and then my auxiliary
[0:11] roles are a field training officer and a
[0:13] drone operator. [music]
[0:14] >> I'm currently assigned as a detective in
[0:16] the general investigations unit.
[0:18] >> My primary role is as a patrol officer,
[0:20] but I'm also assigned to the crisis
[0:22] negotiation team, mobile field force,
[0:24] [music] and I'm a DR SFST instructor. Uh
[0:28] my primary role is I'm a patrol officer
[0:30] assigned to dog watch that I'm also
[0:32] [music] a member of the SWAT team. I'm a
[0:33] firearms instructor. I'm an field
[0:36] training officer and I am a a member of
[0:38] [music] our competitive shoot team. I am
[0:40] currently assigned to juvenile
[0:42] investigations as a detective [music]
[0:44] and uh an auxiliary role of mine is I am
[0:48] an operator on the Brooklyn Park SWAT
[0:50] team.
[0:50] >> My primary role here in the department
[0:52] is um [music] patrol officer. I'm also a
[0:54] member of the SWAT team and also a cadet
[0:56] mentor. currently a patrol [music]
[0:57] officer on dog watch as well as a cadet
[0:59] mentor. I currently hold the position of
[1:01] a patrol lieutenant.
[1:03] >> I was looking for a change of pace.
[1:04] >> I was a sergeant in a large metropolitan
[1:06] [music] department. It was important to
[1:08] me to find a department that valued
[1:10] prior experience.
[1:11] >> The contract, the large [music]
[1:13] department, and the challenging calls,
[1:15] >> some of them being more complex calls
[1:18] that were more fun to work [music]
[1:19] through. I also heard that um admin was
[1:22] very supportive and that they took care
[1:23] of their officers. dynamic call load um
[1:27] the substantial [music] pay and the
[1:30] support from city government as well as
[1:33] administrative leaders. They also
[1:35] consider [music] uh vacation time um and
[1:38] cruel. I appreciate the friendly
[1:40] administration. They take family as a
[1:42] priority.
[1:43] >> While I was working as a patrol officer,
[1:45] I've had a lot of positive interactions
[1:46] [music] with the community and feel very
[1:49] supported in the work that I'm doing. I
[1:51] appreciate working in Brooklyn Park,
[1:54] working for our current administration,
[1:56] and having the ability to go out and do
[1:58] my job.
[1:58] >> The department really encourages growth.
[2:01] [music] Um, they'll send you to extra
[2:04] trainings. The department likes to see
[2:05] you succeed and try to become the best
[2:09] um officer that you can be.
[2:11] >> We have days where we're super busy,
[2:12] days where we have time to [music] be
[2:13] proactive. Um, the call load fluctuates.
[2:16] If you want to go stop cars, you have
[2:18] time to do that. um if you want to
[2:20] patrol parks, make [music] park checks,
[2:22] you have time to do that and then other
[2:23] days um it's just non-stop.
[2:25] >> Productivity is one of the main roles
[2:27] that I like to do dayto-day with that.
[2:29] We [music] have different technology
[2:30] that can assist us in that such as lock
[2:33] cameras which allow us to get different
[2:35] alerts on vehicles to apprehend the
[2:37] suspects. If you're willing to work for
[2:38] something, they're [music] willing to
[2:39] support you in doing that. We have our
[2:41] work out on duty program and uh they're
[2:44] interested in taking care of us both at
[2:46] work and outside of work. After starting
[2:47] in Brooklyn Park, [music] it was
[2:48] apparent that they did in fact value
[2:50] prior experience and I was offered a
[2:53] spot on the SWAT team uh after 10 months
[2:55] of employment. We have many different um
[2:57] units that help us on patrol. One being
[2:59] our investigators that are open to
[3:00] helping us with warrant writing um and
[3:03] any assistance we have [music]
[3:04] investigating cases.
[3:05] >> The hiring process itself went very
[3:07] quickly. I was hired in May of 2021,
[3:10] participated in an abbreviated [music]
[3:12] academy which ended in the beginning of
[3:14] June and completed FTO by the beginning
[3:17] of August.
[3:18] >> I was promoted to sergeant with just
[3:20] under two years with Brooklyn Park
[3:22] [music] and then again to lieutenant at
[3:24] the 3-year mark.
[3:25] >> We have great leadership um coming from
[3:28] admin as well as immediately on patrol.
[3:31] You always have someone that you can uh
[3:33] you can rely [music] on and uh go do
[3:35] things as a team. If you're coming from
[3:37] out of state [music] or from far away,
[3:39] don't let it hold you back. I had a
[3:41] expedited hiring process with interviews
[3:43] backtoback, physical [music] fitness
[3:45] test scheduled as close as possible.
[3:47] >> To come over here, do a ride along.
[3:49] >> The FTO process for laterals is very
[3:52] laid-back. [music] As a person who came
[3:53] to Brooklyn Park with 16 years of prior
[3:56] law enforcement experience, I understand
[3:58] the hesitancy. I understand that you get
[4:00] comfortable where you're at. I can tell
[4:02] you from my personal experience, [music]
[4:03] I was welcomed with open arms. I think
[4:05] you'll be surprised at how welcoming
[4:07] everyone is [music] and uh it's a great
[4:08] place to work
[4:09] >> if you come in here with a dedicated
[4:11] work ethic and a good attitude. The sky
[4:14] is really the limit here at the Brooklyn
[4:16] Park Police Department and make sure
[4:17] it's a good fit [music] for you. Hello,
[4:20] I'm Mark Brley, police chief here at the
[4:21] city of Brooklyn Park. If you're already
[4:23] in law enforcement, you know [music]
[4:25] what makes a job fulfilling and you know
[4:27] what makes it frustrating. At our
[4:29] department, we've built something
[4:30] different, something better. We're one
[4:32] of the busiest agencies in the region,
[4:34] which means you'll use your training,
[4:36] grow your skill set, [music] and make an
[4:38] impact every single day. And we don't
[4:41] just talk about opportunity, we deliver
[4:43] it. [music] Whether it's K9, SWAT,
[4:45] investigations, or specialized task
[4:48] forces, our lateral officers have real
[4:50] [music]
[4:50] accelerated access to all those
[4:52] assignments. We also back our people on
[4:55] the street, [music] in the building, at
[4:57] the bargaining table. Our current
[4:59] contract guarantees that officers are
[5:02] always in the top four highest paid
[5:04] departments [music]
[5:05] in this state. We also have unwavering
[5:08] support from our elected officials from
[5:10] city hall to council [music] chambers.
[5:12] They believe in what we do. They invest
[5:14] in our mission and they stand with
[5:16] [music] us when it matters the most. In
[5:18] our community, they back us day in and
[5:21] day out. They show up for us just like
[5:24] we show up for them. [music] That kind
[5:26] of trust, that kind of partnership, it's
[5:28] earned and it's rare. But what truly
[5:31] sets us apart is our culture. [music]
[5:33] We put our staff first always from
[5:36] leadership to line level. This is a
[5:39] department where you'll be [music]
[5:40] supportive, developed, and respected.
[5:43] And if you're ready for more, more
[5:45] opportunity, more [music] action, and
[5:48] more support, this is where you belong.
[5:51] Come work where you're valued,
[5:52] challenged, and proud of the badge that
[5:54] you wear. [music]
[5:57] Make the move. Make it matter. Join us.
