put your passion into action running for city council is a powerful way to bring positive change directly to your community but before you hit the campaign Trail there are a few important steps you need to take first off pick up a candidate packet from the city clerk's office candidate packets will be available 2 weeks before the filing period the city clerk's office will go over the packet with you to review the documents you'll need to file as a candidate and other important information as part of this packet you'll need to fill out an Affidavit of candidacy this document formally announces that you are running for Council next you will need to get at least 25 signatures from registered voters within your represented District this demonstrates that you have initial support as a candidate for city council it's a good idea to get more than the minimum of 25 signatures in case any of them aren't actually registered remember that these signatures can only be obtained during the designated filing dates for the election once you have 25 signatures and have filled out your Affidavit of candidacy you are ready to file simply turn in your documents along with a $25 filing fee to the city clerk's office and that's all there is to it just remember to mark your calendar and have your documents in before the filing date closes learn more about the filing process and other requirements at www.brooklyn.com
