District 279 Unveils New Logo, Comprehensive Signage System
Independent School District 279 introduced a new district logo and comprehensive signage system during its regular school board meeting Monday, marking the first major rebranding effort in 17 years.
Executive Director of Community Relations K Vala presented the new 'AIO Area Schools' branding, featuring purple and marigold colors with a circular design symbolizing movement, connection and lifelong learning. The logo includes a subtle eye at its center, representing the district's commitment to seeing and supporting every student and staff member. The rebranding moves away from the previous 'District 279' designation in favor of the AIO Area Schools identity.
Executive Director of Finance and Operations John Morstead outlined plans for standardized interior and exterior signage across all district facilities. The signage system includes three distinct design toolkits for elementary, middle and high school levels, with rounded elements for elementary schools progressing to angular designs for high schools to represent student growth and maturation.
The board conducted first readings of multiple policies in the 200 and 900 series, including board operations, facility naming procedures, and community education policies. General Counsel Amy Mork indicated the policies would be posted online for community feedback before returning for final approval in September.
During public comment, district resident Max Maher addressed the board regarding transgender athlete inclusion policies, urging board members to base decisions on evidence rather than abstract concerns. The board also received updates on summer programming that engaged over 5,500 students and ongoing construction projects under the Building a Better Future initiative.
