The Robbinsdale Area Schools Board unanimously approved a resolution Monday supporting the regular reading of a land acknowledgement at board meetings and the display of tribal flags representing Minnesota's 11 federally recognized tribal nations.

The resolution acknowledges that district schools reside on traditional homelands of the Dakota and Ojibway people and was supported by the district's American Indian Parent Advisory Committee. Board members will begin reading the land acknowledgement at meetings starting Aug. 18, when tribal flags will also be displayed in the Education Service Center boardroom.

The board also approved meal pricing adjustments for second meals during the 2025-26 school year, setting breakfast at $2.40 and lunch at $5 to comply with USDA minimum pricing requirements. Chief Financial Officer Hohheisle explained the pricing applies only to additional meals beyond the free breakfast and lunch provided to all students through state funding.

Board members voted to send Policy 501 regarding school weapons to an Aug. 18 work session for further discussion, despite it being a routine compliance update. Director Holmes requested the additional review citing concerns about administrative discretion language and the board's oversight role in personnel matters involving internal investigations.

Superintendent Salo reported on summer programs including Freedom School, where 100 students participated in the National Day of Social Action at the Minnesota State Capitol on July 23. The district continues community engagement efforts with upcoming events including the Great Ardale Get Together on Aug. 9 at Lake View Terrace Park.
