The Robbinsdale Area Schools Board approved four evaluation goals for Superintendent Dr. Teri Stalo during a marathon meeting that extended past midnight Wednesday.

The board spent nearly two hours in a study session debating the goals, with some members seeking more specific, measurable targets while others supported the broader framework proposed by Stalo. The approved goals focus on implementing district visioning recommendations, developing the statutory operating debt plan, establishing continuous improvement systems, and building culture and trust.

Board Chair Gita Evans Becker facilitated the discussion with consultant Barb Dorne, who noted the complexity of goal-setting in large districts undergoing significant change. "The larger and more complex the system, the more difficult it is to reach agreement because words are squishy," Dorne said.

Director Kim Holmes advocated for more concrete measurements, stating she wanted "something that prevents us from going back and forth at the table." Other board members, including Director Renee Bowman, expressed satisfaction with the goals as written.

The debate centered partly on whether to specifically reference the "Reimagine Ardale Vision 2030 team" in the first goal. Some directors argued it gave undue weight to one stakeholder group, while others saw it as important community input. The board ultimately approved modified language that includes the vision team within broader "board study and stakeholder feedback."

Earlier in the evening, the board heard reports on successful summer programming that served 2,837 students across various initiatives including Freedom Schools, credit recovery, and extended school year services. The district also reported enrollment above budgeted projections at 10,285 students.
