Plymouth Council Approves Wine License for Global Table Restaurant
The Plymouth City Council unanimously approved a wine and malt liquor license for The Global Table, a new restaurant concept opening inside Coburn's Market and Table at 6130 Sycamore Lane North. The decision comes as the area prepares for significant residential growth with new apartment buildings scheduled to open.
The council voted unanimously on July 14 to grant The Global Table a license to sell wine and 3.2% malt liquor on premises. City Clerk Jody Gallup explained that under state law and city code, holding both licenses allows the restaurant to also sell stronger beer without requiring an additional permit. The police department's background investigation found no reason to deny the application, and city staff recommended approval.
Chad Nellis, representing Coburn's Incorporated, attended the public hearing to address any council questions. The Mayor noted that the timing is favorable for the business, citing recent tours of the nearby Belle Terre Apartments, the first apartment building in the area, which is scheduled to open in December. Additional apartment buildings are expected to break ground in the coming months, suggesting increased foot traffic and customers for the restaurant.
Beyond the liquor license approval, the council heard updates on several city initiatives. The Public Works Department presented its 2025 annual report, highlighting $85 million in capital improvement projects, extensive street sweeping to improve water quality, and high participation in recycling and organics programs. The city also received recognition from the League of Minnesota Cities for its innovative Wood Utilization Program, which repurposes wood from emerald ash borer-infested trees into products like boardwalk planks and materials for school woodworking classes.
The City Clerk also provided a comprehensive overview of the 2026 election, detailing Plymouth's voting options, security measures, and equipment safeguards. During discussion, council members asked about potential federal law enforcement presence at polling places. Police Chief Fadden reassured the council that state and federal laws prevent such presence unless specifically requested by election officials.
Additionally, council members raised concerns about the city's Automated License Plate Reader (ALPR) system, known as FLOCK cameras. Council Member Greger requested a future report on the technology, citing privacy concerns and accuracy issues. Chief Fadden acknowledged the request, indicating the department would provide more information at a later meeting.

We just got the council, took a tour through the Belle Terre Apartments as this the first apartment building being built in there that’s scheduled to open up on in December. So hopefully that will lease up very quickly and you’ll have a lot more people there in, I believe. Is it next spring they’re going to start the next apartment building this year still okay. They’re going to break ground on the next apartment building in that area. So it’s going to it’s starting to move.
