This is this is a this is a work session between the city council and the planning commission regarding the city center master plan.
So, planning is really really important because you need to make a plan for things and get ahead of things and not behind them.
You are all the experts of Dayton, not me. Um I'm working on it. I'm trying to learn as fast as I can. It's like drinking from a fire hose. So you all need to tell me about this community and what you want it to be.
My primary view of Dayton Parkway is that it's meant to serve the primary view to serve the residents of Dayton. Yeah. All that white block that you're seeing there eventually is going to become homes, and they need a place for a communicate or for a transportation network.
From a tax revenue standpoint, you want to get people to Dayton, not through Dayton.
I don't need another Target, Cub Foods, or Chipotle. I would like our version of Annabelle House, which is little coffee shop. I would like, you know, our version of the Mexican restaurant that's in Osseo. Like, that's what I want to see is a place to to really encourage like small local businesses and whether they're coffee or like cuz the dog groomer I go to in Osseo is actually a Dayton resident.
I'm not convinced that a majority of the folks that live in Dayton want us to have a downtown Dayton area like we're talking about here. I just haven't heard that from people I've talked into.
A good community has the conveniences of amenities nearby, right? Like you don't want to drive 20 minutes to get you know, your hair...
You calibrate by form. Height, setbacks, lot coverage and you say nothing about use or you know, you might say no industrial. You'll have some parameters around uses, but you're very light touch on the use and you're all about what building form you want.
When you get done with a plan and no one is happy that's probably the right plan.
