Uh, as Kyle will, uh, recall also, um, we did meet last Wednesday the steering committee for the, uh, Stevens Park master plan. Sure. Uh, met with MSA. Very good meeting, I thought. Um, the only downer is it's going to be a long process. It's just like I we'll get there. Um if anyone part of the uh I guess what suggestion or uh part of the uh plan is to get six to 10 residents to kind of chime in on what they would like to see at the park. So, if anybody has anybody that um you know in your area or if there's any public interest have uh you can either get a hold of Dan or uh Eleanor from MSA and then Marty will have those contacts or if you message me I have them contacts also. Kyle will also have a list. Awesome. And I think that there's a list been sent to MSA of potential people. So there will be some people already getting contacted. Yeah. So, we'll see how many responses we get. It's difficult to get, you know, 10 or 12 people together, but more people we contact, the more chance we got of getting them. Awesome. Yep. That's pretty much it. Groovy. Um, this where we get your update too, Marty. It just says council. That's I think that my update is pretty much similar to Scott with the the Elsie Stevens Park. Um irrigation stuff is still going in. Um they've moved um got some help too. They've got the stuff mostly done at LC Stevens Park that will be finished up this week in there. They will be finishing in River Hills this week with the pipe and stuff. We're still waiting for electric to get into the uh into River Hills. Um they'll be moving to Iron Gardens next. We're doing some um landscaping in there at the moment. the the BMS in there are a little bit not mower friendly, so we're going to regrade those a little bit so we're not scalping everything all the time. Um so they'll be going in there next. Um Hayden Hills will follow that and then they'll end up at Sundance. Um so that's where that's at. Um canoe kayak launch. Um we're still wait. We got the army core of approval um stuff all the the certification we need from them. Um the HUD um grant um study that we were doing is just about finished. There was a two week um approval process uh for the public to comment on. That's now um expired. Um so we're just waiting for her to officially say yes, you can start drawing down this money. Um, so that's then we can get it out to bid. But then we found out um other than the Army Corps of Engineers certification because it's on the Mississippi and it's a an area of special interest, we need to get an MPCA permit which is over and above the Army Corps of Engineers permit. Um, so that's going to take us another couple of weeks to get through there. So we're probably not going to get to the bid part of this until August. um which isn't ideal but it's still doable. We probably won't get the thing finished until 2026 now just because of that additional permitting. I was under the impression that once we got the Army Corps of Engineers sign off then we were good but apparently that's not the case. So we'll keep working through the process. Um DNR boat landing we're still working through um studies and stuff on there. Um DNR is still fully engaged with that process. Um that again is probably going to be a 2026 bid and build um for us. So that's where we're at with that. Park improvements 2024. Um they have started um on Brayburn. Um they put silk fence in, they started clearing and then we got rain. So that's kind of slowed them right down. Um they'll be getting back at it here pretty quick um this week. Um, but they're they're figuring they're going to be in there a couple of months and have it pretty much shaped up by then. So, um, that's going to move right along. That's about all I have, I think. Um, for irrigation, when we install that, do we have anything in place to make it not irrigate when it is raining or hydrating? Yes, they've got very smart sensors on there. Um they're not just the the little um sponge in the bottom of a glass, you know. It's it's um you can operate from your phone. It works from weather forecast. So it predicts if there's weather. Hydrawise. Huh? Is it Hydrawise? Um I can't remember the name. That's I've recently seen some large places with like a hundred going off and it's like pouring rain and I'm like sure that's great for you, but then when I hear you're talking about the wells at capacity, I'm like how many people might wasting not doing good for their lawn anyway? No, it's a big thing for you for for me and for the city. We don't want to be putting money into infrastructure. That's why we put in wells where we needed them. Um where there was stuff already stubbed out. It didn't make sense to drill a well. Um so we use those. But they are smart sensors. you can turn them on and off from your phone. It's very sophisticated um system that they're using. Um we're going to try that out on these new parks, these five new parks, and then if that works out well, we'll put it on the rest of our systems out here as well. I'll stand up for this one. Um, okay. So, pretty much everything is in the packet there. Um, we got uh three bids. um two from one company and one from uh uh Game Time. Uh Game Time we've worked a lot with in the past. Um they've done pretty much all of the parks in day and currently, but we wanted to get some other quotes. Um we tried to get them to um be in design to what their neighborhood wanted in the park from the meetings that we had with them um which were I put it in here. they the zip line was one of the big things that they were interested in and multiple age groups there you know and ADA compliant was kind of the main things that they were interested in um so there's a lot of difference in the pricing here um game time is 125,000 um Midwest playscapes option one is 182 and Midwest playscapes option two is 241 so it's a big scope differences there. We do have $100,000 in funding from Henipin youth sports grants for this playground. So, um we got a lot of the cost covered there. Um I think what what I'd like to do tonight is just confirm that you which playground that we're going to go for. Generally, we go for the cheaper option, but if you're not comfortable with that and we need you want to have some changes, we can discuss that as well. Um the other thing I'd like to look at is colors. because that was one of the things that the neighborhood were, you know, concerned about is the color color scheme of the the thing. Um, we can just skip through the slides. Um, the first stuff that we're looking at is the game time um option. Um, the small in this the screen just here. This is like the the 2 to 5 year old area here. Um there's some other areas around here with um smaller um things, smaller activities. There's a thing called a thunder wheel which is in here I believe and that's designed for those kids. Um the play uh the swing set um has got two regular type uh um swings there. And let's see if it's on the next one. Um, and then it has the mother and child swing at the end here. Um, so you have the baby facing you and the mother pushing the swing. Um, the zipline um is a new style of zipline. It's not just a metal cable. It's a solid steel structure. Um, so this is different to the other zip lines that we have in town. Um, what else? Um, so there's a lot of climbing structures, a lot of um the monkey bar type things here. Um, and the overall layout. Um, this area here is part of the uh the bid package that we put out. Um, so there will be a shade um structure in here with concrete uh surrounding here and there's um a bench here as well. There'll be furniture underneath this area as well. So, all of these playgrounds have to abide by uh state-run safety zones around the equipment. You can't have them too close to each other just to avoid accidents and people running into each other and that kind of thing. All right, we go. So the basic playground cost is 106,000. Installation is just about 20,000, total price 125,974. Midwest Playscapes, they did a couple of options. Um I'm not very familiar with their um equipment, but this does cover a range of age groups. Um I think it's 2 to 5 and then 5 to 12 is the age group. That's the same for um game time as well. So, there's a lot of um slides and different types of structures, themed structures like the tractor um and the little house in here. Um there's no zip line on this particular one. And then again, there's the the layout is here with all the different areas of of uh of equipment in there. And like I say, I'm not 100% familiar with the these uh structures. So that playground base is 148,000. installation is slightly higher, 33,000 and the total cost is 182 on that playground. And then their option two again doesn't contain a zipline. Um it's got various different elements in there. A lot of climbing structures. Um all of all the all of the playgrounds have got the wood fiber um surfacing in there. So going to the cost base cost on that playground is 195 installation is 46 and the total is 241,000. So I would welcome any comments. So this is um how many neighborhoods is this nearby or like what's kind of the anticipated? So there it would be Braybone Trails and um DCM Farms and Sundance Woods. So there's three neighborhoods that three neighborhoods and Sundance does already have an existing park and playground there. So that's they do already have Yeah. Okay. That's up in Sundance Woods. So this will be in Sundance Greens. Got it. Okay. I was just curious because that looked the first bid looked to be about the same size as the one near our house which serves not very many kids. And so it's just curious how um Donna Hugh Dell's Park is the one that is near. This would be bigger than Donna. Okay. Okay. I mean, I know the zip line would like definitely more, but yeah, Don D is a very small neighborhood park. There's not a lot of Yeah, the main structure just kind of reminded me of of that, but um that was my only concern about this one is like will it be big enough for the population that would be coming here? I think there's also all the other aspects of the park as well, right? Because this park has the pickle ball that's going in and the ball that's going in and so big. Lot of open space. Open space. Yeah. For other things that Yeah, then that makes sense. With the zipline being a different style, I assume that's easier to maintain. There's a probably a reason we're not doing the wire again cuz the wire feels a little more fun to me. But again, there's probably a benefit to this. Um, it seems like this this is where they're going with that solid rail. Um, maintenance- wise, the zip line needs to be tensioned all the time. Okay. Um, and it does break and there is certain risk with that breaking it from a safety concern. I think this is a more rigid structure. That's my first thought for that. The one in Elm Creek Park is like this. And I mean, it's constantly got a line of use. Yeah. Okay. I think I know the ones when I was a kid and it was like 10 ft long and the thing didn't even roll anymore. But uh I mean it's it's been we've come a long way. So yeah. Yeah. Know you can still get going pretty fast on it and then it's fun to you know hit the other end and like Yeah. Swings back. It still has like a Okay. You see it in the drawing now or the right I'm used to right in the middle. Sorry. Yeah. So I uh I like it because it's different to the the other couple of zip lines that we have in town as well. So, it makes it different. I personally like this one better than the other two. I I think I do, too. Yeah. And I I recall seeing game time equipment around and not having any problems with it. But, um, we've got equipment that's been in one in McNeel was put in when I first started doing this as 2014 and that's held up pretty well. So, that's got 11 years in it yet. So, these should last 20 20 plus years. Do they come with any kind of warranty? And if so, is that comparable between the bids? Um, generally everybody just has a standard one-year warranty. Okay. I just feel like I mean they specifically ask for a zipline and so when the other two don't even have one to I didn't know that. That's good. To show. I think that what the other company did saw the the uh size of the box that they was there and they filled the box accordingly and that's what a lot of these playground people do. They look at the box and AI think what fits in there best. Yeah. Yeah. I like the game time quote especially because of the cost but not just because of that. I think working with game time they know that we like zip lines here. So they had a bit of a understanding of what we've been doing before as well. Right. So you had mentioned colors and I remember that I vaguely remember that conversation before cuz don't they have a little tot lot somewhere in there in Braven? They do. Yeah. And they weren't happy with those colors. I'm trying to remember. I think that's what it was. I think they're know what those are. So we don't match them if they didn't like it. Would Google map or something? Is there somewhere I can search for that? Let's see. I I mean, I could be remembering wrong. No, I think you're right. I just think they didn't want anything really garish as well. Not really bright in your face colors, but I think that that park over there, I think it's orange and brown or something like that over there. Oh, which this That's not bad. I know. Maybe I just don't like orange and brown. Maybe I'm misremembering it as well. That's so I was going to say if you're going for like neutral and offensive this feels pretty neutral right where those other bits those colors are bright and definitely some So I do have some color swatches here that will help us have an opinion. Fancy. Wow. So I've just made the meeting all night now. compared to the official Dayton palette, right? There you go. I think we need to We've always had a little bit of the green and blue in there somewhere. Um Yeah. So, if we can incorporate that in, which I think you should Mhm. with it being I think that was, you know, one of the things we talked about very early on when we started doing this is to try and incorporate D and colors wherever we can. So, what do you want from us? Like I see there's different materials listed here. Yeah. Which do you want certain? They're just like which colors do we like in general? Which color palette you want to go with? Just select your colors out that and let's get a consensus and see. I'll get back to game time if that's who we're going with and say this is what we're thinking. Maybe it's maybe it's the same color in different materials. Okay. Yeah, that's first. I thought there was a bunch of different greens, but I think they're the same color. They probably are just on a classical metal, I think. So, the metal we would want to avoid black. And well, basically avoid black on all. What is HDP versus plastic? I can't a different kind of plastic. That's what I was thinking, but density. Yeah. I think it's the tougher plastic. Yeah, maybe it just ends up being a little different shade. No, because it's not a city park. Oh, it's a private park. Okay, great. Did you see the colors on it? No, I was trying to look on the city page to look at the parks that we have listed, but yeah. Okay. Yeah, I pulled it up on Google and it looks like some very pixelated orange, maybe. What about the um Google entry for the park? Do they have one? Like sometimes people take pictures of it. Maybe I don't know. Have one though. I'm on Google My Maps, not regular maps, but um like Marty said, it's a private park, too. So they might have people may not have rated it or whatever. So what about the spring green, which plain blue? Yeah, I was looking at that azure, but I think I like the regular blue more. Even if it's not, I think it goes better with the green. So, spring green metal and then Well, I think we'll pick whatever color. Yeah, cuz the colors or it doesn't matter. And then the palette they'll apply to all the That's my assumption is then some things will end up being the green metal or green plastic. That's it kind of. And then for the deck, maybe the brown if we're going to go kind of like sky blue, green, blue, brown. The sky blue would match the colors that we have. I think it would be pretty close. Yeah. And then and then I feel like maybe that gives a little more liveless to make up for the brown, the mutedness of the brown. I don't know. Pen. Yeah. I don't feel like I'm qualified to be making I know I'm also recommendations I'm not a like I don't know fashion person or anything I wear I know about outside things but not so much so how many colors do we need about 10 you are going to be here till Um I like is it because I see three color basically three colors on fours and I think um what's on the rendition is it three Jurassic color palette. Does it list the colors? Yeah, we Oh, it upright accent butter HDP2 plastic decks. So they have as many as six in there. Yeah. Like this one has. I kind of like the idea then of of having like multiple blues with a green. Yeah. And then the one green. That's kind of neat. I like that. Sounds a big glitter. And that's where it is. Step away from the colors. [Laughter] Yeah. And I don't like any of the other really base kind of areas are too dark for nothing. In my own house, too, when I'm picking colors for the wall, I'm always just like, I'm going to make this decision as fast as possible because I just don't know. I'm terrible at colors. Yeah, that's why you have us, right? That's why I'm giving it to you guys. Blues with the But I like Yeah, I like this more. Were these considering these? And then do I want to put the brown in there if they need like a base? If they need a base for the brown, if they don't want to make those blocking surfaces out of Okay. What colors? I mean the be the this doesn't it would have to be like more than this but like all the ropes and stuff like that I was like they're almost starting to get to something that maybe could be Yeah. I pictured that one down creek kind of scaled down from that but like Yeah. Yeah. scaled up. No. Yeah. I think it's, you know, from a neighborhood park to, you know, premier park isn't totally different, you know, mindset. So, well, we're getting there and obviously you'll be part of that discussion as well as well as the rest of the park commission as well. So, yeah, we'll see where that goes. Awesome.
