Review of New and Updated Curricular Resources
Dr. Aimée La Due presented recommendations for curricular resources across four main areas: updated secondary social studies texts (e.g., Northern Lights, History Alive, Contemporary Human Geography), the 'benchmark Adelante' resource for elementary Spanish immersion aligned with the READ Act, updated materials for AP/IB courses (including specific texts for IB Visual Arts and AP Business, with teacher selection for AP African American History and IB History), and the 'social thinking' and 'Purposeful People from Character Strong' curricula for social-emotional learning. These resources are for review and feedback by the community before formal board approval at the August 6th meeting.
Recruitment and Retention Annual Update
Angie Flowers presented a comprehensive update on HR's efforts to meet the board's recruitment and retention goals. Highlights included new partnerships with Augsburg University and CareerForce, innovative marketing through podcasts and targeted social media campaigns, and successful job fairs. Staffing numbers for reserves, paraprofessionals, and teachers were shared, showing strong fill rates. Retention strategies included the successful implementation of a new HRIS system (Skyward Q), a leave of absence resource hub, staff recognition, professional development, and new leadership opportunities for night custodians. Initial results from new hire and exit surveys, as well as a new 'First Explorers' engagement survey, indicated overall positive employee experiences and areas for continuous improvement. A partnership with the University of Minnesota for an all-employee engagement survey was also announced.

each June we provide the board with an overview of curricular resources that we're recommending for board consideration and approval. In alignment with our district policy and as a part of our district curriculum review process, as well as the new course approval process that happens each year, we identify new or updated resources to support district curriculum across courses and across levels.
All of these are being updated from texts that are um at least 7 or 8 years old and in some cases older. Um and in social studies, as you can imagine, that's an area that is changing and evolving uh as time goes by.
This resource is uh supports evidence-based literacy instruction as well as biliteracy development for elementary immersion learners. The resource also includes explicit foundational literacy instruction, reading comprehension and vocabulary development, writing instruction, and oral language development.
These resources provide a common language and consistent framework to support relationship building, self-awareness, responsible decision making, and positive school communities.
This uh presentation is in direct response to our board goal, excellence in leadership and organizational support, continue to focus on recruitment and retention of exceptional teachers and staff, identify strategies to create a representative workforce of staff capable of meeting the cultural and academic needs of our diverse student body, and who will create a learning environment for all students to be successful.
With this one [Augsburg partnership], it's a bit more focused on placing their students and they work with us on different opportunities to get in front of them and they have a very talented and diverse student body.
We know that we're unique in being a district that hosts their own job fair specifically focused on non-teacher roles.
This has been work for the past year, a labor of love. I just have to applaud everybody and all their hard work and everything they poured into it. We went live about a month ago and things are still being done and updates are being made. But I have to share one of the compliments from the vendor Skyward. They said that this district was the most prepared team that they had ever seen.
This is a new position where HR worked with Buildings and Grounds. We've had some turnover in that area, so we've been trying to address it, and we created this position that gives people an opportunity to grow and do some leadership. ... But, this did not require us to have any extra staff. We did not have to add FTE. We restructured it...
I'm thrilled that we have two collective bargaining agreements already done this negotiation cycles and I'm really excited that we have a an agreement with our paraeducators and paraprofessionals just because often times districts struggle with that group to adequately compensate them and get things done um a men- a menial be amenably.
Their agreement for the paraprofessionals includes step movement each year and they will get an additional 3.42% added to the salary schedule in year one and an additional 3.0% in year two. There's also going to be an increase to insurance at all levels and the big win we had here was really getting up our rate for our special education paraprofessionals.
For the office assistants, they were also really great to work with and their agreement, similarly, they have step movement each year and they will have an additional 3% added to the salary schedule for both years. They will get insurance contributions at all levels as well and increase there for a total package of 8%...
