During his years [24:40] at Mount Doanka, he has been involved in [24:42] band, choir, math league, theater, [24:46] speech, and archery. Please welcome [24:48] Braden Trundle to the podium. [24:58] [Music] [24:59] You know, starting off this speech is [25:01] probably the hardest part of this whole [25:04] thing. Hey, I'm Braden. You've probably [25:08] seen me around. I've done a lot of [25:10] stuff. Though in reality, most of what [25:13] I've done I did just this year. If you [25:16] were to make a time machine and tell a [25:18] little baby Braden that he would be [25:20] doing a speech for graduation, he'd call [25:23] you crazy. Granted, he would stutter a [25:26] lot while saying it and would speak with [25:27] just a little bit of a list, but [25:30] whatever. That's not important. [25:33] The important thing is that it goes to [25:35] show how much of a difference you can [25:36] make in your life. You can make it [25:39] powerful. You can make it positive. And [25:41] you can make it possible. You can grow. [25:44] You can change. No matter what happens, [25:47] you can change. Your life can change. [25:49] You can change the lives of others. And [25:52] others can change your [25:54] life. Back in elementary school, I was a [25:57] little problematic. I had these [26:00] meltdowns nearly daily where I would [26:02] break down in the middle of class and [26:04] basically halt everything. But one time, [26:07] and I don't remember who this was, I was [26:10] having my standard breakdown in third [26:11] grade class. I was as difficult to calm [26:14] down as I always was. And for one reason [26:17] or another, the teacher just wasn't [26:19] available to help. But there were still [26:21] other students in the class. So someone [26:24] came to my side and told me to focus on [26:26] my breathing. [26:32] Someone who was not even 10 years old [26:34] yet saw I was struggling and decided to [26:37] step in to calm me down. That very [26:40] student is graduating this year, whoever [26:43] they may be. And I fully believe that [26:46] they will continue to help those who [26:48] need it. And although I don't remember [26:50] who this was, it really could have been [26:53] any one of you. I believe everyone here [26:56] is able to do that. I was always afraid [27:00] of being alone, but that moment gave me [27:03] a [27:04] realization. Am I really? Through my [27:07] times of greatness and through my times [27:09] of not so greatness, there was always [27:12] someone to talk to. There was always [27:15] someone I knew. My parents, my [27:18] grandparents, my friends, my teachers, [27:20] this amazing class, they've shown me [27:24] something. You are who you make yourself [27:27] to be. You surround yourself with the [27:29] people you choose to surround yourself [27:32] with. I invite everyone here to take a [27:35] moment and look back at themselves from [27:38] a year ago, two years ago, three years [27:41] ago. I'm willing to bet most, if not all [27:45] of you, would say you've become a better [27:48] person in that time. And if you don't [27:51] think that way, it's still not too late [27:54] to [27:54] change. I've seen the change in people [27:57] firsthand. This is a class full of [28:00] life-changing people. The robotics team [28:03] went to worlds. The dance team went to [28:05] state. Deca Deca did as well as it [28:08] always does. [28:11] Each and every person has shown the [28:14] growth they've made through these [28:15] accomplishments. They've worked [28:17] together. They've built each other up [28:19] and they've achieved greatness. They go [28:22] beyond just the bare minimum of the [28:24] school day. I mean, there's an entire [28:26] extracurricular activity where people do [28:29] more [28:30] math. What a bunch of nerds. I mean, I [28:33] was on that team, but that's that's to [28:36] be expected of me. [28:39] This graduating class actively works [28:41] towards doing more. Miss Chilson has [28:44] always encouraged the idea of doing more [28:47] band, but in reality that can apply to [28:49] anything. If you find something you [28:52] enjoy, why stop at just the bare [28:54] minimum? This is this class is living [28:58] proof that doing more is the greatest [29:00] indicator of growth. We've grown from [29:03] small kindergarteners who would scream [29:05] and cry to proud members of the [29:08] community with the potential to move [29:10] mountains with our actions. Graduating [29:13] high school is just the start for these [29:15] brilliant minds as they still have so [29:17] much more growth and excellence to [29:19] achieve in their [29:21] life. No matter how ridiculous the odds [29:24] may seem, within us resides the power to [29:27] overcome these challenges and achieve [29:29] something beautiful. The road home is a [30:25] beautiful message of a journey towards [30:27] belonging. For me, this song represents [30:30] hope. The poem tells a story of [30:33] navigating difficult times. The singer [30:35] goes from feeling hopeless and lost to [30:38] finding a path that will lead them [30:39] towards a place that feels like home. [30:42] The nostalgic and promising tones of [30:44] this poem resonate with anyone who has [30:47] ever felt uneasy about their future. I [30:50] get emotional every time I sing this [30:52] song. As we approach graduation every [30:54] year, I come to terms with my close [30:56] friends leaving West Honka High School [30:58] and finding their paths. I know that [31:00] soon I will be in that position, [31:03] venturing outside of the town I've lived [31:04] in for the majority of my life and [31:07] surrounding myself with new people that [31:09] will shape my future. I'm hopeful that [31:12] my friends and I will find our people [31:14] and that our paths will lead us towards [31:16] a future we can be proud of. Throughout her years at Mount [36:10] West Tanka, she has participated in [36:12] DECA, student senate, soccer, lacrosse, [36:15] math league, and was a board member of [36:17] the Eli Hart Foundation. Please welcome [36:20] Emma to the stage. [36:26] [Applause] [36:32] Good evening, parents, faculty members, [36:35] friends, and most importantly, the [36:37] graduating class of [36:38] 2025. Thank you all so much for [36:41] celebrating this special moment with us [36:43] tonight. Whether that's in person, [36:45] through our live stream, or in our [36:47] hearts, my name is Emma Carlson, and I [36:50] am so incredibly honored to be here in [36:52] front of you speaking. Reflecting on my [36:54] high school years, it is not tonight I [36:56] remember most. It is everything that has [36:59] led us here to this point. Now, before [37:01] we celebrate all of the hard work that [37:03] our graduates have put in, I would like [37:05] to start by telling you all a story. [37:08] When I was younger, I loved reading. I [37:11] loved the feeling of being so engulfed [37:13] in the pages that I couldn't put my book [37:15] down. Whether this was through the [37:17] magical adventures of Harry Potter or [37:19] reading about Earth's various [37:22] ecosystems, I had one weakness, though, [37:24] one fatal flaw. I always read the last [37:27] page of a book before I had even started [37:29] chapter 1. I know, I know it's basically [37:32] a crime against literature, and I'm sure [37:34] that all of my former English teachers [37:36] are cringing right now. I couldn't help [37:38] myself, though. I had to know how the [37:40] story ended before I had flipped that [37:42] first page. There was something so [37:44] comforting to me about knowing how the [37:46] story would unfold before fully [37:48] committing to the novel. Knowing that [37:50] the hero survived or that the guy got [37:52] the girl was relaxing and helped push me [37:54] through the book. The truth is knowing [37:57] the ending of the story kind of ruined [37:59] it for me. I missed the tension, the [38:02] surprises, the character development, [38:04] the very things that make a story worth [38:06] reading. The beauty of a great story [38:09] isn't just how it ends, it's how it [38:11] unfolds. And now, as I'm here on stage [38:13] at graduation tonight, I'm starting to [38:16] understand that life works the same way. [38:18] Class of 2025, we've all been so focused [38:22] on this very moment. Walking across the [38:24] stage, moving our tassels, tossing our [38:27] caps, and finally being done with high [38:29] school. But we've forgotten to [38:31] appreciate the little things that made [38:33] our high school journeys our own. those [38:36] late nights cramming for our finals, the [38:38] opportunity to eat lunch every day with [38:40] our best friends, and the many times [38:42] that we have fallen and been helped back [38:45] up. All of these once thought [38:47] insignificant scenes that we rush [38:49] through are the same ones that we wish [38:51] we could read again. If there's anything [38:54] that our high school has taught me, it's [38:56] this. The ending is only as meaningful [38:59] as the story that got you there. And [39:01] life, just like any good book, isn't [39:04] about rushing to the conclusion. It's [39:06] about fully immersing yourself in the [39:08] journey page by [39:10] page. So, class of [39:13] 2025, as we move on to this next chapter [39:16] of our lives, I encourage you to stop [39:18] trying to flip ahead. Don't worry about [39:21] how it all ends. Stay present. After [39:24] all, the best stories are the ones that [39:26] we live fully, not the ones that we try [39:29] to fast forward through. [39:30] Congratulations, class of 2025. [40:20] To this class, I want to say you have [40:24] left a legacy that goes far beyond your [40:27] academic achievements. You were [40:29] authentically kind in a world that [40:32] sometimes seems louder with criticism [40:34] than with compassion. You chose empathy. [40:38] You lifted each other up, offered a hand [40:41] when someone stumbled, and made space [40:44] for every voice. You didn't just learn [40:47] about community, you created one. You [40:51] celebrated each other's accomplishments [40:53] as if they were your own. Whether it was [40:56] a win on the robotics field, an [40:58] impressive spring musical performance, [41:01] or a personal goal quietly achieved, you [41:04] showed up for each other. That is not [41:07] common. That is character. [41:10] And when the opportunity to lead [41:12] presented itself, you did not wait for a [41:15] title. You led by example in your [41:18] honesty, your integrity, and the small [41:21] daily choices that you made when no one [41:24] was watching. You made this school a [41:27] better place. And more importantly, you [41:29] inspired those coming after you to [41:32] believe they can, too. As you step into [41:35] the next chapter, whatever or wherever [41:38] that may be, carry that spirit with you. Back in [42:14] September during our first senior class [42:16] meeting, I shared with you that [42:18] graduation is my favorite night of the [42:21] year. [42:23] In that in this night where each of your [42:25] names, first, middle, and last, will be [42:28] called and you walk across this very [42:31] stage to receive the diploma that you [42:33] have earned. As you stand and come [42:36] toward the stage, take a deep breath, [42:39] hear your name, and walk with pride, [42:43] knowing you are who you are as a [42:45] collective result of your experiences in [42:47] life and experiences here at [42:50] MWHS. Congratulations. We are so proud [42:53] of who you have become and even more [42:55] excited for who you have yet to be.
