Minnetonka Schools approves three facility improvement bids

The Minnetonka Public Schools board unanimously approved three construction bids on September 5 to upgrade aging systems and facilities across the district, with all projects coming in at or below budget estimates.

Published Jun 27, 2026

The school board moved forward with facility improvements totaling over $2 million, approving bids for window replacement at Deep Haven Elementary, HVAC upgrades at Excelsior Elementary, and boiler room work at Minnetonka Middle School West.

For the Deep Haven window replacement project, the board initially received a low bid from CM Construction but rejected it as non-compliant with specifications. The board instead approved a bid from Daring Pearson Group for $1,111,000, which was slightly above the individual project estimate but fits within the overall budget for the district's fiscal year 2027 capital projects. "In aggregate we are under budget estimate overall for this particular FY27 set of jobs that we're bidding out," said Paul Bourgeois, who presented the bids.

At Excelsior Elementary, the board approved CM Construction's bid of $242,000 to replace HVAC systems in the school's 1958-built cafeteria gymnasium—significantly below the $375,000 budget estimate. The third project involves replacing 1964-era boiler room components at Minnetonka Middle School West. The board approved Northland Mechanical Contractors' bid of $636,900, which came in $113,100 under the $750,000 budget estimate. This work mirrors a similar project completed last year at Minnetonka Middle School East and is designed to improve energy efficiency and system capacity.

All three bids passed unanimously. The projects represent the district's ongoing effort to maintain and upgrade its aging school infrastructure. District officials noted that the boiler room work at the middle school is intended to complement potential future bond referendum initiatives, suggesting the district may seek voter approval for additional facility improvements down the road.
