The ordinance permits ADUs as a tool to address housing and sustainability goals. ADUs can be located within, attached to, or detached from primary residences and are known by multiple names (backyard cottages, granny flats, in-law suites, etc.). Benefits include multi-generational housing, aging in place, and support for individuals with disabilities. The Planning Commission conducted over one year of study before recommending the ordinance. The City Council proclaimed April 28 – May 4, 2024 as Small Business Week. The 50th and France Business and Professional Association is organizing promotional events including an Easter egg hunt (held in March), the Edina Art Fair (May 31 – June 2), and other activities designed to encourage local shopping and community engagement. The district emphasizes that 96% of city businesses are small businesses that contribute significantly to the local economy and community vibrancy.

The Edina Human Rights and Relations Commission will host its 13th annual Days of Remembrance event on May 15, 2024, from 7:00–8:30 p.m. in the Edina City Hall Council Chambers. The event, titled 'Genocide in Ukraine from Stalin to Hitler to Putin,' will feature keynote speaker Dr. Ellen J. Kennedy, founder and executive director of World Without Genocide. The event will address historical genocides (Nazi era, Stalin-era starvation in Ukraine) and ongoing atrocities in Ukraine. The event will be broadcast live on Edina TV and streamed on Edina.mn.gov.
