Call to Order Chair Pfuhl called the meeting to order at 7:02 p.m. ## 2. Roll Call Answering roll call were Commissioners Bye, Conzemius, Garazatua, Hulbert, Rezac, Kane, Pfuhl and Student Commissioner Harrington. Commissioner Welsh arrived at 7:10 p.m. ## Absent: Commissioner Wick and Student Commissioner Syed Staff Present: Staff Liaison Perry Vetter, Assistant Director Recreation & Facilities Tracy Petersen, Recreation Supervisor Nicole Gorman, General Manager Braemar Arena and Field Facility Jesse Buchholz and Administrative ## Coordinator Janet Canton ## 3. Approval of Meeting Agenda Motion made by Hulbert to approve the meeting agenda. Motion seconded by Garazatua. Motion carried. ## 4. Approval of Meeting Minutes ## 4.1. Minutes: Parks & Recreation Commission April 14, 2026 Motion made by Bye to approve April 14, 2026, minutes. Motion seconded by Garazatua. Motion carried. ## 5. Special Recognitions and Presentations 5.1. Welcome Commissioner Justin Rezac to the Parks & Recreation Commission Chair Pfuhl introduced the new Commissioner, Justin Rezac, and each Commissioner and staff introduced themselves. ## 6. Community Comment None. 7. Reports/Recommendations ## 7.1. Senior Center Update Nicole Gorman, Recreation Supervisor, gave an update on the senior center programs and services. Commissioners asked questions. ## 7.2. Braemar Ice Arena & Field Facility Update Jesse Buchholz, General Manager of Braemar Ice Arena and Field Facility, gave an update on Braemar Arena and Field operations and projects. Commissioners asked questions. 7.3. Initiative 1.5.4: Research and if feasible, develop action plan or further research of no more than two Alternative Funding Strategies (2023 Work Plan Item) to progress that initiative. Chair Pfuhl informed the commission that after the discussion at last month's meeting on this initiative, staff were asked to contact the City Attorney to look into some legal options. Staff Liaison Vetter noted he has also reached out to two members of the existing Edina Crime Prevention Fund to see if they would be interested in talking to the commission and giving their experience about what it's like to be in a non-profit that's Edina focused for a specific reason. The group would like to try and get the legal and technical aspects of it as well as a connection to that experience in the community. ## 7.4. 2026 Park & Recreation Commission Work Plan Staff Liaison Vetter informed the commission that they have two new commissioners that can be added to work plan initiatives. He went over the three initiatives that had openings: Initiative 1.5.1 — Review and Comment on Braemar Arena Implementation. Initiative 1.5.2 — Review and compare park shelter building amenities and function. Initiative 1.5.4 — Research and if feasible, develop an action plan or further research of no more than two Alternative Funding Strategies (2023 Work Plan Item) to progress that initiative. After some discussion, Commissioner Conzemius will be added to Initiative 1.5.4 and Commissioner Rezac will be added to Initiatives 1.5.1 and 1.5.2. ## 8. Chair and Member Comments None. ## 9. Staff Comments ## 9.1. Upcoming Meetings & Events Staff Liaison Vetter gave the following updates: • The Parks & Recreation Commission meeting in June will be held on Tuesday, June 9, there is no meeting in July, the August meeting will be held on Monday, Aug. 10, the September meeting will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 8 and the October meeting will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 13 and the November meeting will be held on Monday, Nov. 9. • The Edina Aquatic Center opens Thursday, June 4. • The Fourth of July parade will be held on July 4 at 10 a.m. and the music and fireworks will be held that evening at Rosland Park. • The Fall into the Arts Festival will be held Sept. 12–13. • Braemar Golf Course will again be hosting the Minnesota Golf Association Adaptive Open, which will be held Sept. 25–27. • The City Council authorized their guaranteed maximum price with H+U Construction for the Fred Richards project, so they will be beginning that work soon. • A second lift of asphalt has recently been put down on the Mooty Pickleball courts expansion. There is a 30-day cure before they can color-code it. • Centennial Lakes Park has two new boats; one is a swan and the other is a duck. • The Edina Aquatic Center is starting to water test. This has been a massive project for staff with an extremely tight timeframe. 10. Adjournment Motion made by Hulbert to adjourn the May 12, 2026, meeting at 8 p.m. Motion seconded by Garazatua.
