[Music] the Dina high school and middle school mountain bike teams participate and win at the state level but have not had a place to practice in the city for the past decade that will change this month eight miles of biking trails are set to open to the public on previously unused sections of Brar Park new hiking trails will also Wind Through the area Edina TV takes us on a ride to show us what we can expect not far from the meticulously maintained greens at the Brar Golf Course enthusiasts of a very different sport will find a more rugged landscape this is our largest park so it was a pretty good and easy location to start looking at Trail at 500 Acres Brar Park was the Natural Choice for new walking and mountain bike trails these new recreation options are part of the Brar Park project funded with the local option sales tax approved by voters in 2022 a project celebrated by the Adina high school and middle school mountain bike Team the fact of the matter is that here in the western suburbs there's kind of a desert of mountain bike trails Landscape Architects Incorporated input from the teams to make a course fun and accessible for all skill levels we've asked the city to uh create a system that has both challenging features uh but features that also can be ridden around or can be avoided by less experienced Riders but before any Trail work could begin a thorny obstacle had to be removed an invasive species called Buckthorn the material is okay to be left as long as it's not a heavy layer what wasn't burned was ground up it really went from solid wall of green to what you're seeing kind of today where it's um a lot of this had to be forestry mowed down um it was really the only established species in here Pathfinder Trail building did what they do best carving the trail design into the existing topography surrounding it all is 2 and 1 half miles of hiking trails we're working on just buttoning up things like signage um and some of Hazard removals and also some clay capping on the trails new park amenities in Edina nearly complete after a long climb giving residents and around 120 local students a home field advantage the community as a whole obviously is going to benefit but I'm here as a a representative of the team and the team is the team is really pleased on the Brar Trails I'm Dan Carpenter for ad TV to learn more about the new trails including the date of the ribbon cutting visit Edam mn.gov parks next your work on the trails will continue with the planting of native species efforts to control Buckhorn will continue for years years to come
