Adjournment Page 1 of 10 ## Item Report April 21, 2026 ## City Council ## Item Number: 3.1 Department: Community Development ## Item Activity: Discussion Prepared By: Addison Lewis, Community Development ## Coordinator ## Item Title: Preparing for the 2050 Comprehensive Plan ## Action Requested: None, discussion only. ## Information/Background: Cities in the 7 County Metropolitan Area will be required to complete updates to comprehensive plans and submit them to the Metropolitan Council for review by December 31, 2028. Updating the Comprehensive Plan every ten years is required by State law. Staff plan to prepare a Request for Proposals (RFP) to be released this summer so that work may begin at the beginning of 2027. Staff will be seeking any feedback from the City Council that may inform the RFP. This feedback could include comments on the planning process, community engagement, or areas of focus to be included in the next Comprehensive Plan update. Council members may also provide feedback if there are aspects of the existing Comprehensive Plan that they like or don't like as it relates to big picture concepts (not necessarily specific policies or recommendations included in the plan).
