[0:00] [Music] [0:05] Technology advances so quickly these [0:07] days that it can be difficult to keep [0:09] up. It can be particularly challenging [0:12] for Edina's older residents. That's why [0:15] the Edina Senior Center partners with [0:18] senior community services to offer free [0:21] one-on-one sessions to overcome [0:24] techrelated challenges. Edina TV looks [0:27] at help available along with the [0:29] organization and volunteers behind this [0:33] important service. [0:35] You know, here's what I would like to be [0:36] able to do with my email. I'd like to [0:38] have like a box on one side that says [0:40] business, that says friends, that says [0:44] family. [0:45] Using new technology can have amazing [0:47] benefits when it works. [0:50] Just always work. I mean, I've done it. [0:52] When the tech is constantly changing, [0:54] just getting started can be the opposite [0:56] of simple. [0:57] I was giving a presentation a couple [0:58] weeks ago and a gentleman came up to me [1:00] and said, "Gary, I'm 84 years old. I've [1:02] made it this far in my life without [1:04] technology." [1:05] Seniors who make the choice to learn how [1:07] to navigate a world largely integrated [1:10] with technology, can find free [1:12] assistance through senior community [1:14] services. We're not trying to convert [1:16] anybody to technology, but there are [1:18] certain things in life that you just [1:20] cannot do without technology. And if you [1:24] don't want to do them, that's your call. [1:26] But it makes life easier. [1:27] Are you getting it on your phone? [1:29] Private one-on-one appointments with [1:31] skilled volunteers. [1:32] Have you changed your password on your [1:33] Amazon? [1:34] Like this at the senior center and at [1:37] home are helping those 60 and over [1:39] become more comfortable in a digital [1:41] world. It is really nice having the [1:43] one-on-one because it takes away some of [1:45] that [1:47] um the fear of having to be in a class [1:51] learning how to do something on your [1:53] phone or your laptop or your iPad. [1:56] It's very satisfying because people come [1:59] in with what might seem like a small [2:02] question um but it's become a big [2:05] question to them and sometimes they have [2:07] a whole list of things they want to [2:08] accomplish in 55 minutes. Seniors can [2:11] apply for help with other tasks, too. [2:14] And [2:14] so, interior, we provide help with [2:16] housekeeping and handyman stuff. [2:19] Exterior, we'll do lawns in the summer, [2:22] snow removal in the winter. [2:23] Are you getting it on your phone? [2:24] Leveraging technology and improving [2:26] lives, one step and one click at a time. [2:30] They can call us. We can get them [2:31] scheduled over the phone. They can stop [2:33] by the front desk and sign up for the [2:35] appointments. [2:35] I'm Dan Carpenter for Adana TV. [2:38] Visit senior community.org. or if you or [2:41] somebody you know could use a little [2:43] help with technology or if you are [2:46] interested in volunteering to help [2:48] others.
