[Music] welcome to agenda Edina a program summarizing the actions taken at City Hall that affect you most I'm your host darthia Marty the municipal election is heating up the offices of Edina mayor and two city council members will be on the ballot of the general election November 5th mayor Jim hland is being challenged by former city council member Ron Anderson three candidates are vying for the two open seats on the city council incumbents Carolyn Jackson and James Pierce and planning commissioner Ryan day early voting for the general election begins September 20th residents may vote early at e din city hall or the henpen County Government Center or by mail all absentee voters are required to have a witness the mayor and each elected council member will serve a 4-year term beginning on the first Monday in January following the general election January 6th design of the new Fred Richards Park is underway the Confluence company began work in June to transform the former Fred Richards Executive Golf Course on parklon Avenue into a 43 acre multi-use Park the park will consist of three key areas the central green nature bank and Great Lawn there is also a panhandle in the northern part of the park known as the loop so this process has been going since um engaged in 2016 and you know the closing in the Fred was big for the community um so it's taken us a long time to get to this point but it's really exciting moving forward again taking all that visioning and um their original Concepts and really making them a reality now that we have the funding and the support to do so some changes have been made to the original plan instead of renovating the clubhouse to include new resturant rooms and Food Service Confluence recommends a new centrally located Park pavilion be constructed the primary entry Drive parking courts and playground have been reoriented to minimize impacts on Wetlands council members gave their feedback on the initial design at a meeting last month work will continue to refine the concepts after designs are completed construction documents will be created for bidding the Parks and Recreation Department hopes to break ground for the project made possible by a local option sales tax next year the Dina Fallen to the Arts Festival is returning for its 20th year September 7th and 8th at Centennial Lakes Park approximately 240 artists food vendors and sponsors are participating in the festival art categories include two-dimensional sculpture wearable wood Pottery mix media photography fine crafts glass and jewelry it's just an amazing family centered event it's dog friendly so you can bring your kids bring your dog um check out our kids zone from 10: to 2 in the amphitheater both days there'll be lots of great activities put on by Park and wreck and then you know just the vast array of artists is amazing and really supporting their livelihoods and their work we're very passionate about that and there will be something for everyone proceeds from the Fallen to the Arts Festival benefit the Edina crime prevention fund which contributes to many police programs and services including the K9 unit motorcycle unit police explorers and night to unite the fund also offers reward money for information leading to arrests for serious crimes in addition the festival benefits Centennial Lakes Park the Edina Art Center and the Edina chamber of Commerce this is the chamber's third year organizing the event for more information on the festival visit Edina Fallen to the arts.com it's always a great event I hope to see you there thank you for watching this episode of agenda Edina I'm your host dorthia Marty [Music]
