Well, greetings everybody. This is Jim Huffland. Uh, this is the mayor's minute for Wednesday, March 11th, 2026. Greetings to everybody. You know, we've got two members of the Atlanta City Council that'll be in Washington DC next week advocating for our community at the National League of Cities meeting. Carolyn Jackson and Julie Russer are attending the National League of Cities Congressional City Conference where more than 3,000 local leaders from across the country will be meeting with federal officials to discuss issues affecting cities and also meeting amongst themselves to look at best practices. During the National League of Cities Conference, Julie and Carolyn will be participating in policy sessions, hear from national experts, and take part in what they call Hill Day, where local officials meet directly as members of Congress. Edina's federal priorities include affordable housing, climate action, aviation noise, public safety, protecting municipal bonds, and ensuring clear regulations for emerging products like THC infused beverages. We're also asking for the preservation of the post office at 50th in France. And we're also looking at some railroad safety legislation. And we know folks along the rail line would like to have some peace and quiet from the horns that are required to be sounded because of safety operations by the railroad. And we're also looking at funding and a longerterm time frame to meet web content accessibility goals. As part of the coalition we are part of here locally, the cities for safe and stable communities, we're also advocating for solutions that support stable communities, including addressing food insecurity and supporting small businesses and rental assistance. We're also asking for the adoption of clear constitutional standards for all agents operating in Minnesota on a federal level and immigration enforcement. Citizens need to trust that those enforcing the laws are also abiding by constitutional protections. These conversations help ensure Edina's voice is heard as federal policies and funding decisions are made in Washington DC. So, we're thankful Carolyn Jackson and Julie Risser had the time to represent the city council this year at our nation's capital. And we thank the taxpayers of the city of Edina, whether it's for Julie and Carolyn or any other city council member or for me to be able to attend these important meetings to make us operate better as a city council.
