[0:03] [Music] [0:06] Edina Public Schools is committed to [0:08] ensuring that each and every student [0:11] that enters our classrooms becomes a [0:13] thriving reader we have committed to [0:18] ensuring that each student receives the [0:20] best instruction aligned to the most [0:22] current research possible and this is [0:24] done through our commitment to the [0:26] science of reading after letters we have [0:28] so much more intentionality into [0:30] everything that we do from reading [0:31] stories to guided spelling to decoding [0:34] um we really have the science really [0:36] pushed into exactly everything that we [0:38] do um the students are more confident [0:40] they're using all their skills that [0:41] they've learned and it's just totally [0:44] changed everything that we do in [0:45] literacy here in kindergarten how do [0:47] they just connect literacy to their [0:51] lives and that that's really the entire [0:54] goal of literacy development for um all [0:56] children but for young children we we're [0:58] really giving them that fun mental start [1:01] beginning of school our teachers have [1:03] just really embraced the science of [1:06] writing and it has created this um [1:09] movement around the collective efficacy [1:12] in looking at data and using that data [1:14] to inform instruction and then make [1:17] those instructional shifts that they're [1:19] learning about in the new research and [1:21] the science of reading through their [1:22] letters and the Spire courses and um [1:26] monitoring that and ensuring that that [1:28] instruction is landing on kids in a way [1:31] that shows that they are reaching that [1:34] aggressive growth and meeting benchmarks [1:36] and thriving and learning to love [1:38] reading yeah and I really especially [1:40] appreciated looking at students who have [1:43] made growth despite their being at a low [1:46] risk rate or at a risk rate and they're [1:49] still making some growth and that's [1:51] really positive and I what we were [1:53] thinking right now is to look further [1:54] and see look at what they are doing um [1:58] with those kids what we are doing with [1:59] those kids with with um their growth [2:00] rate how we can maybe bring that to [2:02] other students who are also on our uh [2:05] fast Bridge uh charts at Southview we're [2:07] really um we love celebrating Student [2:10] Success and so when we see the data go [2:15] up we we pull the student in and and [2:18] celebrate with them whether it is the [2:20] kids being successful our staff being [2:22] amazing or our community wrapping around [2:25] our school district to make certain that [2:28] we are the leaders we are are defining [2:31] excellence in the areas of Science of [2:33] reading I just couldn't be more proud as [2:35] a [2:36] [Music] [2:47] superintendent
