[1:18] welcome everyone to our eighth grade into the Year ceremony honoring our eighth graders at Valley View middle
[1:24] school my name is Sean Dudley and I'm the principal Valley View it's an honor
[1:29] to be standing before you today and honoring our eighth grade class this is
[1:34] a special class we have had a lot of change and transition while at Valley View and they've navigated it well our
[1:42] eighth grade class is the first to move through Valley View as a true middle school with only three grades in our
[1:49] building they spent their years knowing Valley View as just a middle school and
[1:54] yes they are middle school students in other awesome quirky fun amazing and
[2:00] beautiful ways in their middle school journey our eighth graders have navigated construction including coming
[2:07] to school and on Monday and finding a new construction wall prompting a strategic change and how to get to
[2:13] classes on the other side of the building through dust jackhammers demolition and that strange smell that
[2:21] was sort of like garlic bread but too much garlic and not enough oil one morning our eighth grade students have
[2:27] rolled with things and even more than that they've thrived in the last few
[2:33] weeks of the school year our our eighth graders have shown maybe some of their finest metal on March 12th students went
[2:40] home to what they thought was a three-day weekend they didn't realize it would be their last stay in the physical
[2:46] building at Valley View no one did the eighth graders did what I would
[2:51] expect them to do they have shown remarkable patience patience with
[2:57] resilience positivity hopefulness focus and commitment in short they've nailed
[3:05] this this whole distance learning thing they've got this our eighth graders have
[3:11] shown in their response to distance learning construction different school structure their capacity to be nimble
[3:18] and to respond to change with ease and confidence that is a life skill that is
[3:24] not taught but it's learned and experienced given the opportunity and
[3:30] what an opportunity it's been I'm so proud of them for stepping up accepting the challenge
