[1:18] welcome everyone to our eighth grade into the Year ceremony honoring our eighth graders at Valley View middle [1:24] school my name is Sean Dudley and I'm the principal Valley View it's an honor [1:29] to be standing before you today and honoring our eighth grade class this is [1:34] a special class we have had a lot of change and transition while at Valley View and they've navigated it well our [1:42] eighth grade class is the first to move through Valley View as a true middle school with only three grades in our [1:49] building they spent their years knowing Valley View as just a middle school and [1:54] yes they are middle school students in other awesome quirky fun amazing and [2:00] beautiful ways in their middle school journey our eighth graders have navigated construction including coming [2:07] to school and on Monday and finding a new construction wall prompting a strategic change and how to get to [2:13] classes on the other side of the building through dust jackhammers demolition and that strange smell that [2:21] was sort of like garlic bread but too much garlic and not enough oil one morning our eighth grade students have [2:27] rolled with things and even more than that they've thrived in the last few [2:33] weeks of the school year our our eighth graders have shown maybe some of their finest metal on March 12th students went [2:40] home to what they thought was a three-day weekend they didn't realize it would be their last stay in the physical [2:46] building at Valley View no one did the eighth graders did what I would [2:51] expect them to do they have shown remarkable patience patience with [2:57] resilience positivity hopefulness focus and commitment in short they've nailed [3:05] this this whole distance learning thing they've got this our eighth graders have [3:11] shown in their response to distance learning construction different school structure their capacity to be nimble [3:18] and to respond to change with ease and confidence that is a life skill that is [3:24] not taught but it's learned and experienced given the opportunity and [3:30] what an opportunity it's been I'm so proud of them for stepping up accepting the challenge [3:37] rising to the challenge and showing great leadership and now a word about [3:42] our 8th grade teachers eighth grade teachers Valley View staff and my [3:49] colleagues mr. Barron - mr. Lowe thank you to all of you - for the love and care and gift of your time talent and [3:55] treasure you have so freely shared to ensure all of our students are successful with a positive learning [4:02] experience I feel pride in belonging to Valley View and I hope you do too you're incredible [4:09] Thank You parents for gifting us with your children for three years your love [4:14] and support are evident in our great 8th grade students and Thank You fabulous [4:20] eighth grade PTO parent volunteers we are so very lucky to have been able to [4:26] receive the gift of your sharing and support eighth graders your flexibility [4:31] tenacity resiliency and excellence will serve you well at Edina high school as [4:37] your middle school journey comes to a close and you embark soon on your high school years keep a hopeful outlook stay [4:45] involved in activities be gracious and appreciative of those around you and [4:51] most of all be who you are always be who you are you're one of a kind Thank You [5:00] eighth grade students for the opportunity to serve you as your principal congratulations [Music] [5:19] another turning point a fork stuck in the road time grabs you by the wrist [5:26] arrived she went to know [Music] [5:34] it's something unpredictable but in the [5:42] end is right the time [5:49] [Music] [6:12] [Music] [Applause] [6:19] right [6:26] [Music] [6:54] it's right I hope you have [7:04] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [7:11] I hope you [7:21] [Applause] [Music] [7:40] [Music] [8:02] [Music] [9:18] [Music] [10:12] [Music] [11:01] I would like to welcome Andy Beaton the [11:07] high school principal to our Valley View ceremony to give some remarks and welcome our students good morning eighth [11:14] grade students from South u Middle School in Val view middle school my name is Andy Beaton I am the principal at [11:19] Edina high school soon you will be arriving at Edina high school this is why I'm wearing my regalia because we're [11:25] also honoring students that are gonna be finishing their high school career and graduating gives me great pleasure to [11:31] welcome you and also give you some advice coming in Medinah High School has an incredible tradition of excellence in [11:38] academics and athletics and the arts we have the most state championships of any school in the state of Minnesota we [11:45] continue to have nationally recognized choirs bands thespian programs and we [11:51] also are recognized as one of the top if not the top College Prep high schools in the state of Minnesota so you were coming into a school that expects a lot [11:58] of you and your families expect a lot of you but it's also a school that provides a lot of support so at the same time we [12:04] want to make sure that you are working hard and enjoying your experience I'm really looking forward to getting to [12:10] know you this summer and into the fall congratulations on moving on to this next level we will now have a band [12:16] selection from our eighth grade band directed by Chris combs [12:32] [Music] [13:43] [Music] [13:48] [Music] [13:58] and now we'll hear a piece from our Orchestra under the direction of mr. McAllister and I are so proud of all of you and can't wait to see what [41:17] you'll do at the high school our eighth graders are seehim Abdi Sabrina imagine [41:23] Malik al-khatib Sarah Begley Katarina Duda Mustafa oh honey [41:30] Sarah Hudson Alexandra Myron Margaret Mustafa Brianna Sackett lily [41:38] Saxton and karma Scott [41:47] hi i'm eric lowe i'm the assistant principal at Valley View and it's my pleasure to deliver some closing remarks [41:52] to us today first I want to extend a huge congratulations to our eighth graders for making it through middle [41:58] school it's amazing to me how much you've grown since you came into our building as sixth graders whether that's [42:04] physically emotionally socially or intellectually I also think back on it [42:11] and it wasn't long ago in August when I sat you down at the beginning of the year as eighth graders and let you in on [42:17] a little secret that our school would go as well as you as eighth graders led it that year we asked you to exhibit [42:24] various values such as integrity compassion commitment appreciation of [42:29] diversity and responsibility and you did an excellent job of leading our school with all of those I want to say that I [42:36] appreciate that your leadership to help guide our sixth and seventh graders I also want to say [42:43] good luck to you at the high school I hope that you you are able to identify your passions the things that you're [42:49] interested in and lean into those opportunities that you're going to explore thank you to our parents and [42:55] other family members who are watching this your partnership and your support [43:00] throughout these three years and especially these last couple of months is greatly appreciated and as a parent [43:06] of three children on my own I know how difficult it has been these last couple months to both work and guide your [43:11] students through this distance learning I also want to say thank you to our staff for the teachers the Paras the [43:21] secretaries principal Dudley Dean of Students Behrendt for all their support these during these times and I also want [43:29] to encourage you students to also show that appreciation to those teachers that you've had and those that you'll have in [43:34] the future for the time commitment that they put in to helping you achieve your goals thank you for attending today it's [43:43] been our pleasure to work with your child congratulations students and have a great summer [43:57] you
