Edina Public Schools Superintendent presented a fall update highlighting extensive community engagement efforts and the identification of five key focus areas for the district during a recent message to the community.

The superintendent reported conducting listening sessions with more than 200 community members after initially requesting the school board identify 50 to 75 people for input. During these sessions, participants were asked to share three things they were most proud of, two areas for the district to consider, and one way the administration could provide support.

From the community feedback, district leadership identified themes that resulted in five areas of emphasis for the school year. The superintendent plans to meet with the school board mid-year to discuss learning outcomes from the engagement process and will present recommendations to the board in spring.

The district has scheduled several upcoming events, including kindergarten information nights beginning this week and sessions for fourth and fifth grade families to learn about the district's middle schools. A health and safety community event is planned for November 19 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Valley View Middle School.

The superintendent praised ongoing partnerships with community organizations including Rotary, Chamber of Commerce, Key Communicators Group, and Parent Leadership Teams. The message emphasized appreciation for district staff and highlighted classroom innovations, particularly new curriculum implementation in elementary schools.
