Edina Approves Rivian Showroom at Galleria
The Edina City Council has approved a conditional use permit for Rivian, an electric vehicle manufacturer, to open a showroom dealership at Galleria Edina.
The showroom would be located on the mall's northwest side between Cracker Barrel and Big Bowl, with up to six Rivian vehicles available on site for test drives. Customers would be able to order vehicles inside the store, but deliveries would be made directly to their homes. The Edina location would operate much like any other retail tenant at the mall, aside from offering test drives.
Separately, the city has selected a new development team to purchase and redevelop the former public works site on Eden Avenue. The Housing and Redevelopment Authority chose a team consisting of Hemple Real Estate, Monarch Development Partners, Jester Concepts and Rooost Advisors from 11 proposals reviewed this summer.
The 3-acre site has been vacant since public works moved to a larger property in 2010. The selected plan focuses on owner-occupied units rather than rental apartments and includes multiple townhouse and condominium buildings, as well as a standalone restaurant operated by Jester Concepts. The development team has offered $4 million for the site, with proceeds going to the city's general fund.
The draft sales agreement will go to the city council this fall, with the sale anticipated to close in 2026 or 2027. The developers will pursue rezoning and site plan approvals through Edina's standard development review process after the contract is executed.

You know, I like to say every site has certain advantages and certain disadvantages. And the key is to figure out what's unique about a site and then tailor your plan to meet that site. And in this particular instance, the site is got great bones, right? It's in West Edina. It's right near a whole lot of activity there at 50th and Vernon. It's got food. It's got entertainment. It's got great access to the road system.
The topography is the very unique thing about that site. And that was an opportunity in our opinion to work with the topography and create a village with a little bit of a rolling feel to it where you have varying roof lines and elevations and even the green space that can be tailored to meet that topography.
