The Edina Virtual Pathway (EVP) is a tuition-free online school available to all school-aged residents of Minnesota. The program uses asynchronous learning, meaning coursework is posted weekly for students to complete on their own schedule rather than attending live classes at set times. This structure is designed to serve student-athletes, working students, and those dealing with health or anxiety-related challenges.

During the presentation, council members learned that EVP maintains the same academic standards as Edina High School's in-person programs. "Edina virtual pathway is not an easier school than its in-person counterparts and requires just as much time and dedication as attending in person," according to remarks made during the meeting. The program offers both full-time and part-time enrollment options, with students able to join school clubs and varsity sports teams like the Edina Hornets hockey team if they choose.

The program includes robust support services for students with disabilities and English language learners, including Special Education services and compliance with federal 504 accommodations. EVP also provides technology like Chromebooks to ensure all enrolled students have equitable access to coursework. An administrative office handles student and family inquiries during school hours.

One speaker emphasized the importance of offering online education as an option. "I think online should be an option for all students. I think lots of families really need that kind of learning and that kind of opportunity for their students," they said. Another noted that the asynchronous format allows working students to "get their coursework done when they have time to get it done versus living by the bell all the time."

Students must be physically present in Minnesota to qualify for free public education through the program. The presentation drew no dissent from council members, who focused on understanding the program's mechanics and benefits.
