Edina Council Appoints Election Judges for August Primary, November General Election
Council members unanimously adopted Resolution 2026-39, clearing the way for City Clerk Sharon Ellison to continue recruiting and training poll workers ahead of the August 11 primary.
The Edina City Council unanimously approved the appointment of election judges for the city's upcoming primary and general elections, adopting Resolution 2026-39 as part of its regular business.
The resolution covers judges who will staff polling places for the August 11 primary election and the November 3 general election. The motion was made by Council Member Jackson and seconded by Council Member Pierce, and passed without dissent.
City Clerk Sharon Ellison, who is responsible for election judge recruitment as well as roll calls at council meetings, oversees the process of identifying, appointing and training the residents who check in voters, manage ballots and certify results at each precinct.
Why the appointments matter
Because the appointments were handled by resolution, the council action also gives the clerk's office the authority to fill vacancies and make adjustments as the election calendar advances — a practical necessity in a process that frequently sees late cancellations and last-minute substitutions.
Mayor Hlin, who presides over council meetings and coordinates staff reporting, moved the item through the agenda alongside a slate of other routine business.
Part of a full agenda
The election judge resolution was one of several items to win unanimous approval. Council members adopted the meeting agenda as published and approved the balance of the consent agenda, both on motions from Council Member Jackson seconded by Council Member Agnu.
