Wayzata Public Schools Board Meeting Opens with Public Opportunity, Focus Shifts to Teacher Development
The Wayzata Public Schools Board provided an open forum for community input before delving into a comprehensive report on the district's peer coaching initiatives and their impact on staff growth and student achievement.
The Wayzata Public Schools Board convened for its special regular meeting on Monday, June 22nd, 2026, where an "Audience opportunity to address the board" was prominently featured on the agenda. This designated period allows community members to directly share their perspectives and concerns with the district's governing body, upholding a commitment to public engagement and transparency.
Prior to the meeting, District Admin Assistant Amy assisted with audience participation sign-ups, streamlining the process for those wishing to speak. With the opportunity extended, the board proceeded with the formal approval of the agenda and consent agenda items, a motion that passed unanimously with all board members present casting a 'yes' vote, including Paris Spendy, Sheila Prior, Idi Kar, Valentina Ays, Dan Janestra, Alicia Little, and Milan Sahony.
Following the public address segment, which saw no formal presentations from community members on this occasion, the meeting pivoted to extensive discussions on administrative reports, recommendations, and, most notably, a detailed teaching and learning report focusing on the QC Comp program and the district's peer coaching mission. This session highlighted efforts to foster continuous self-directed learning and growth among staff.
Board members reflected on the value of these professional development initiatives. One Board Member emphasized the importance of self-improvement, stating, "I particularly, you know, I align with that second quote about being vulnerable and reflect in ways that help them identify strengths, opportunities and for growth and actionable steps. And I always believed even in my career, my life that if I'm not ready for criticism, constructive criticism, then I will never improve. And I think that is one of the ways to identify my strengths, my weaknesses and then how I can improve. So I think that is very important."
