reelected mayor at 2025 general election swearing her in today is The Honorable chief judge uh Carrie Meyer who serves the Fourth Judicial Court in head of and C [Music] all right here we go ra your honor to serve the city of Maple plan and and the residents and the staff it's a great place all right our next item of business this evening is the O of office for council member elect for Shell this um next item of business to come before us this evening is the approval of the officer positions for the fire department and I'm going to turn that over to administrator colander to give us the summary thank you madam mayor members of the council um we had the opportunity to meet last week to do interviews for the officer positions um sorry I'm on the wrong page um so I am asking uh Council uh to approve the following promoting Joe Doyle from Lieutenant to Captain promoting Zach Christensen to Captain uh keeping Patrick belon as lieutenant and promoting Holden Mo from firefighter to Lieutenant Joe will be handling the training schedule for the fire department um we had uh three applications for four positions so that's why we extended the application period thank you for that summary looking for someone to move that motion I'll make that motion move by council member Beck second second by council member Francis any further discussion or questions caring none all in favor please signify by saying I I po same sign motion carries for to zero at this time I'll turn it over to our fire chief um Rick Dennison and the floor is yours awesome honorable mayor council thank you and uh thank you again for the approval of the promotions that we have and um just want to say a few words um feel awkward sitting but trying to address both the uh audience family members that are here but just want to take a just a little bit of time and talk about what we're doing tonight and so on the fire department when we get somebody to apply to the fire department and they get Pro approved and put on then they will spend uh one year or so on the fire department before they are officially accepted and during that time they'll go through uh certain trainings that are outlined in that onee probation period once they finished that probation period up then we have a swearing in ceremony like we're having tonight to accept them on as a full member of the fire department and so tonight um we are recognizing Adam Ruben and Adam came to us in April of 2023 and like a lot of the people that we get that come uh get on to the fire department he came through uh one of his neighbors that lived across the street in fact our captain uh Zach Christensen their neighbors and uh he saw Zach was on the fire department started talking about it hey what's that all about Zach did an awesome job getting his hooks into him and uh and uh get him brought in and we got him signed up on the fire department so uh Adam started his time on the fire department April of 2023 and in his first year which is always the busiest year it seems like as you get going on the fire department to get caught up to speed with some of the the training and the understanding as to how things work going to calls uh and just uh getting literally downloaded with all of that information so that you can operate efficiently and with the rest of the crew you are a busy person between going to firefighting classes hazardous materials training emergency um uh EMR training to be able to do medical First Aid on people all of that and try to accomplish that within your first year and Adam was able to do that in putting over 200 hours in in his first year service on the fire department Adam also did that while responding to to just under half of the calls that we had between uh April 23 and uh May of 24 and that was about 180 calls that he had come to and that was also while working a full-time job and then also while having a family at home so busy person and we certainly appreciate the um effort and having Adam on to the fire department he's been just such a great uh as to our department so um Adam would you come up and stand with me here next to the table and then the next person that I want to talk about that we're working through is H yeah just stand here for me for just a second next person is um Joe Doyle and Joe Doyle uh is um one of our members that is uh came to us in 2020 and Joe is on the mantos fire department for several years before coming to the maple plane fire department and he uh has just fit in so well bringing some of the experience that he has gotten from uh his previous department and then coming in and just a seamless transition and it's probably no secret that we have more than one doy on the fire department okay more than two doy on the fire department we're at our quota of three so so he comes from a line of family members that are willing and want to serve and it's been awesome to have him on our department and last year he was promoted to the position of lieutenant and has worked through that position and now this year we're moving him up to an open Captain spot so Jo Joe is being uh promoted to uh Captain one uh starting this year so Joe would you come up and join me [Music] and then last but certainly not least is uh Holden Mo and Holden if you want to come up and join us too and Holden join us uh I joined on to the fire department in 2021 and he has just uh hit the ground with his feet running uh uh calls that he has come to maintaining a high percentage of calls uh but also being involved in so many different things that we do on the fire department some of the things that you don't realize that we do in some of the public education such as going to the schools and talking about fire prevention or some of the the trunker treats or other opportunities that we have to go out and be in the community that are not necessarily firefighter related but so important for us to be involved in the community and uh Holden's been a part of that along with as he's gone through his uh firefighting career looking to advance and find a leadership position in the fire department by uh attending some schools that are a little bit above and beyond going to a leadership conference in duth and then some of the other trainings that he again has attended uh through his career since he's been with us and they have made him an excellent candidate for this position to be promoted up to Lieutenant so all three them I'm so glad to have them on our department and we will I'm gonna have all three of you stand in front of the table just like the others did and we'll do the swearing in here gentl right here trust me me too yall were here for the other one right raise your right hand I state your name I do solemnly swear do solemnly swear that I will support and defend support and the Constitution of the United States of America constition of the United States of America and the state of Minnesota and the state of me go me go congratulations now ceremoniously we do a badge pinning of the personnel as they uh join the fire department and also work through promotion and we'll start with Adam so uh Adam who's spinning your badge my wife Jenn great come on up Adam this badge is a symbol of the oath that you have taken to protect and serve the citizens of the city's of maple plane Independence and anywhere where we may serve where proudly youve earned it congratulations Joe who's pinning your batch uh my wife Ally awesome on up awesome better uh this badge is a symbol of not only the oath that you have taken to Serve and Protect the citizens of maple plan and indpendence but also a symbol of leadership of the maple planing fire department where proudly you earned it thank you [Music] stitches are perfect we have the ambulance standing by I got it and Holden who's pinning your badge my wife Lauren awesome Oren Holden this badge is a symbol of the oath that you have taken to protect and serve the citizens of the city of Maple plane and Independence but it's also a symbol of leadership with the maple plane fire department where proudly you've earned it thank you sir congratulations [Music] most importantly thank you for the support to our fire department and thank you also for all of yours Department we couldn't do it without you and uh we're glad to be here once again Round of Applause for [Applause] uh well congratulations to firefighter Ruben and enjoy wearing that new hat and also a thank you to everyone that has stepped up on the leadership team and as the chief alluded to already a huge thanks to all of our firefighters for the commitment that you make um 247 to and protect even when it's um below zero or 110 degrees um you are all Faithfully there so we are grateful for that and truly appreciate it um at this time I'll turn it back over to administrator colander thank you madam mayor members of the council just one last piece of business uh to fill everyone in um Mike delugo was reelected to the maple plan City Council of the 2024 general election due to a scheduling conflict council member Mike Lua was sworn in Thursday January 2nd at City Hall thank you for that update and congratulations council member Luca on his reelection um are there any other reports to come before the council this evening uh hearing none I would just like to do one official thank you um again on behalf of the city um and the council and chief Dennis and a special thank you to all of the electeds that are here with us tonight as well um chief judge Carrie Meyer school board or no school board Maple plane representative when lunard um council member Alisa Benson director Public Safety Chief KS um Sheriff danana wit I apologize uh Marge beard from The Three Rivers parks district and all of our electeds it truly um is an honor to serve in a community that we do know and believe that together we are better and it's um better for each person here did I somebody McCoy and Ray McCoy independent city council and Brad Spencer mayor-elect from Independence see that's why it shouldn't start if I don't write things down and anyone else I can't see I'm truly grateful for each and um every one of you in the valuable Partnerships that we do have and um again we get so much more done and it helps make maple plane and our communities a great place to live work and play so
