[0:00] The vast [0:00] majority of people [0:02] have protested peacefully. [0:04] My deepest thanks. [0:05] We are so grateful [0:06] for everything that you've been doing. [0:07] And to our first responders, [0:09] they have been working tirelessly. [0:11] They've made sure that they are out here [0:12] protecting people, [0:13] keeping them safe, [0:14] and showing a true [0:16] juxtaposition between the kind of [0:18] public safety and service [0:19] that we provide to our residents [0:21] here at the City of Minneapolis, [0:23] versus what ICE is doing. [0:24] We are a safe city. [0:25] We will not counter [0:27] Donald Trump's chaos [0:29] with our own brand of chaos here. [0:31] I'm incredibly [0:32] proud of the police officers in this town [0:34] and the state law enforcement officers [0:36] and all the other police [0:37] that have been here with us through this. [0:38] What you saw [0:39] last night was a disciplined [0:40] and restrained response. [0:42] I think it was highly professional. [0:44] And I'm thankful [0:45] for the members of the community [0:46] who understand our need [0:48] to keep things peaceful, [0:49] and others [0:50] that are continuing to call [0:51] for a peaceful protest and assembly. [0:53] We are fully prepared [0:54] if things cross the line [0:56] and become unlawful [0:57] to make additional arrests if necessary. [0:59] We are meeting a whole lot of despair [1:01] with a lot of hope. [1:02] We are doing right. [1:03] We are being strategic. [1:04] And yes, [1:05] for those that are taking the bait [1:06] and causing property damage or otherwise, [1:08] there are consequences. [1:09] We act very strategically with restraint. [1:12] We take our time to ensure [1:13] that we have sound tactics, [1:14] a good plan, and move in, [1:16] so that we can keep [1:16] the safety of law enforcement [1:18] as well as the safety [1:19] of community in mind.
