3 2 1 go. >> We are on a tour of a lot of the facilities that the city runs so that we can introduce all of our new members to how our city works. >> We have a lot of learning to do here as the four new freshman council members. >> I have a very open-minded perspective. I'm excited for the opportunity. >> You have 13 council members, a mayor and a cabinet, but the people that actually, you know, do the work every single day are city employees. and then kind of seeing the intimate details of that has been really exciting. >> Those things that you tend to just take for granted, our water, our safety, our parks. We were touring the emergency operations center while our federal government was occupying our city. And pretty remarkable to see our professional staff being able to support our city in this way. >> The federal occupation has complicated things, but it's another opportunity for us to serve our residents and show up in a way that really benefits people. So, this is where the water comes in. When you put this on, that's going to add about 75 lbs to you. >> The fire safety pants. That was work. >> It is tough. My brother-in-law is a firefighter for Minneapolis Fire. >> Of course, my son is a firefighter. >> I grew up actually in the ward that I'm now representing. >> I came from the Minneapolis Park Board, representing most of Ward 7 for 4 years. I really am attuned to the community's voice. >> I believe it's a responsibility to my community. >> Public service is how I view this job. Every term brings a new dynamic and I think getting to know each other is going to help us govern better together. >> We're in dark times, but we have a strong city. >> It's a great city. We're going to continue to make it the best city in the world.
