Heritage Commission Approves Certificate for 25th Street Property
The Minneapolis Heritage Preservation Commission approved a certificate of appropriateness for 105 25th Street East during its July 29 meeting, the sole action item on a brief agenda focused primarily on administrative matters.
Commission Chair Marais Bjornberg led the meeting with eight of nine commissioners present. The certificate application was placed on the consent agenda without opposition from commissioners or the public, allowing for approval without discussion.
Historic Preservation Team Supervisor Andrea Burke announced that commissioners interested in attending the Preserve Minnesota Conference from September 10-12 must respond by July 31 to receive scholarship funding for registration fees and lodging through a CLG pass-through grant. Burke said the city has received grant funding to cover these costs for interested commissioners.
Burke also reported the completion of the Minneapolis African American Historic and Cultural Context Study, stating the Minnesota Historical Society has officially closed out the grant for the project. The study will be presented as a discussion item at the commission's next meeting on August 12.
Additionally, Burke promoted the National Alliance of Preservation Commission short course scheduled for August 20-21, noting that commissioners can receive a reduced rate through the city's NAPC membership, though they must register and pay individually.
