this is um some high level introduction. I know you've already heard a little bit about this at the joint park board council meeting. That was a very quick uh look into it. Matt's going to go into more detail. I'm certainly interested in looking for feedback. Um but just a reminder, there's no formal action required with this. It's just about listening and providing feedback as necessary.

Part of the problem is that folks get down to this dead end and they don't feel like turning around. They want to continue their adventure. So, they'll scramble up over the trail or the railroad.

From a long-term plan, I would love to see a trail from Big Willow all the way to 494.

if if there's a a new off leash fence dog space, it will likely be very popular. Uh and because it's um uh kind of currently separate from the sports focus. Yeah. uh that uh for for that purpose alone it would be very important in my opinion to make sure there's trail connectivity direct between the two not just along the the road but um actually through if possible the the the great nature opportunities.

I just want to compliment you on this. I think this is looks really exciting. Um, this is our first real master plan. What I mean by that is Purgatory was totally hijacked by a single issue and and so it really wasn't in my mind ever master planned. And I think the kind of thinking that's been going into this is really um exciting and again you do have this sort of two weird areas. You got heavily athletic which doesn't even show up here and then this all this excitement over here. So, I just want to applaud the efforts so far and it's um this I think will be kind of a real master plan which is great.

Uh, so I was wondering if we could add to the second bullet point, uh, you know, um, equity. So, promote equity, quality, and inclusive recreation or however we want to layer it, but it's not listed. Uh I appreciate the inclusive language that I'm seeing both in the vision and the mission. But the thing about equity that we should be taking into consideration or we should have as our mission is to ensure that uh there's not you know inequitable distribution of amenities or activities or that sort of thing.

I think that the plans take on the characteristics of the people who were representing the park board at the time. And I think the um parks have changed from the balancing of natural resources with outdoor recreation is a common theme. Um but I would say the newer ones that we're hearing today and from um the email that received is is the equity. DEI has become um a more centered um concept that may not have been um around at the time that the original one does.

Well for instance again as a new member newish member I've not had an agenda I've not had a meeting where the focus of the meeting or an agenda item was based on the post plan result showing inequity. Today we're working on this problem or through this problem. So clearly we're not dealing with the ne we're not we don't have an equity centered plan of action approach to our agenda approach to our work items even though we have a giant overarching document that demonstrates inequity.

I hear what you're saying. I'm not sure I necessarily agree. I I see recreation, natural resources. Um balance is more of the approach that I see as primary. The balance between equity like you mentioned and the natural resources. We don't want to take out old growth. Help me out. Oaks. Thank you. Bur oak. um because we want to make sure that everybody that that it's equitable that any everyone can go in there. You you had mentioned that there is and and has been since ADA came out in the 1990s that balance. So I think equity should be a component of what we do and might be missing in some of this before when this was written when it's a natural resource base versus an outdoor recreation. But I I'm not quite sure I buy that equity is um the main driver. I think it's a balance um and something that we include in the matrix to make sure that it's a component that's being looked at.

I don't know that I entirely uh envision what it looks like to have to codify something like this. So, if it's a a study that's looking at our park system and and and you know, similar to what our post plan is, but it's not a specific focus. So, it's maybe it has a it's done in a little different way. Um, you know, that's something we would have to have worked into the budget. Um, just from a practical standpoint, we can't just hire staff. It has to be in a in a budget. Um, those budgets get approved uh a year in advance. So, we've already budgeted for all of next year.
