Communitywide Greenhouse Gas Emissions and Impacts of Drive-Throughs
Ally Sutherland presented comprehensive data indicating Minnetonka has reduced its communitywide GHG emissions by 28% from 2018 levels. While vehicle travel is now the largest emissions source, drive-through idling accounts for less than 0.5% of total citywide emissions, suggesting its direct impact is minor compared to other activities like residential gas or overall transportation. Commissioners discussed the merits of regulating drive-throughs versus implementing broader anti-idling education, particularly concerning school buses and parent pick-up lines, and reviewed various Climate Action and Adaptation Plan strategies to prioritize for greater impact, including EV readiness and green car share programs. Concerns about EV tag fees as a deterrent were also raised.

As a driver of an EV vehicle, it feels in this day and age that I'm being punished for having an EV... reducing the tag fees would be nice because that is really a deterrent for most people to have an EV these days.
