Minnetonka Prioritizes Housing in New Five-Year Economic Plan
City's Economic Improvement Program allocates $2.78 million to housing initiatives, setting strategic direction through 2031.
Minnetonka’s Economic Development Advisory Commission (EDAC) gathered on August 13, 2026, to review the proposed 2027-2031 Economic Improvement Program (EIP), a comprehensive five-year strategy emphasizing housing as the city's foremost economic development priority. The plan outlines significant financial commitments, including $2.78 million specifically earmarked for housing programs.
The newly reviewed EIP details a multi-faceted approach to economic and housing initiatives for the period spanning 2027 through 2031. Beyond the substantial housing allocation, the program projects $875,000 for redevelopment efforts and $585,000 to support local businesses. This strategic framework incorporates detailed policy, funding mechanisms, and specific housing goals designed to guide the city's development.
Housing programming continues to be the city’s highest priority in this year’s recommended EIP.
Comprehensive Strategy for Community Growth
During the meeting, EDAC members also received standard updates on ongoing economic and housing projects. These sessions provide an opportunity for the commission to coordinate with internal staff and review operational developments that have occurred since previous discussions. Economic Development Coordinator Kjerstin Yager supports EIP reporting and MinnPACE administration, while Housing Coordinator Kendyl Larson contributes to the housing dashboard and EIP documentation, providing critical data for these updates.
This comprehensive EIP reflects our ongoing commitment to a balanced approach, ensuring both robust economic growth and crucial housing solutions for our community's future.
