Minnetonka Council Establishes Economic Advisory Commission, Advances Key Infrastructure Projects
City leaders approve a new advisory body while reviewing bids for multi-million dollar trail lighting, planning a new dog park, and considering local business licenses.
The Minnetonka City Council recently solidified its strategic approach to economic growth and community development by formally establishing an Economic Development Advisory Commission (EDAC). This decision, a key action alongside the review of significant infrastructure bids for the Opus Trail lighting improvements and plans for a new Purgatory Park off-leash dog area, highlighted a productive agenda for local officials.
Economic Development Advisory Commission Formed
The newly constituted Economic Development Advisory Commission (EDAC) is designed to provide expert guidance on strategies for sustainable economic growth, redevelopment initiatives, and affordable housing within the city. It will comprise seven voting members, each selected for their specialized expertise in fields such as law, finance, development, planning, and housing. The resolution to establish the EDAC was unanimously adopted by a 7-0 vote, following a motion by Council Member Wagner and a second by Council Member Wiersum.
The establishment of the Economic Development Advisory Commission reflects our ongoing commitment to fostering sustainable economic growth and ensuring Minnetonka remains a vibrant community for all. Having a dedicated group of resident experts to advise on complex matters like redevelopment and housing initiatives will be invaluable.
Opus Trail Lighting Project Moves Forward
In infrastructure news, the Council reviewed bids for the Opus Trail Lighting Improvements Project, a significant undertaking to install new LED trail lighting throughout the Opus area. Laketown Electric submitted the lowest bid at $1.6 million. This figure emerged after an initial engineer's estimate of $3.14 million was adjusted to correct for bulk pricing errors, resulting in a revised project total cost estimated at $2.56 million. A bid opening for the project took place on August 20, 2026.
