agenda which includes the school board minutes for the work session on the school board meeting for November 25th 2024 the regular school board meeting minutes for November 25th 2024 the Personnel consent agenda and the business consent agenda Mr chair what I would like to point out for everyone on the business consent agenda if you notice there are two contracts in there for lighting upgrades I think you guys have all seen the numbers on that but just wanted to bring that out that it's uh some pretty impressive work that we're able to get done in the buildings and a lot of that's going to get paid for by Excel rebates and total payback is just over three years so pretty pretty cool to see that we can do that and uh good going there so uh with that I move approval of the consent agenda four recognitions presentations and showcase uh Mr samany uh turning it over to you thank you very much it's always nice uh follow activities recognitions for this year uh first up for the recognitions are all state recipients these are all coaches association Awards there's a overall umbrella coaches association but then each of the sports specific associations have their own uh um different uh coaches association where they give out certain Awards each Association does things a little bit differently so you might uh see some terms uh a little bit differently here some uh for example when they have all state um selections their first state second state that sort of stuff others you're all state and that's it you're all state so it's a little bit different and that's uh By Design and that's uh how the coaches have it set up but our first Allstate uh recipients this year volleyball Elena [Applause] burns on to soccer we have two that were all state we have Elanor Rondell who was second Team all state and Ansley Blair First Team all state and now we have the high school league Awards the Minnesota State High School league has two the Excel award is for juniors and it really focuses on leadership in all activities uh not only just school activities but uh personal activities your work activities um anything that you're in a leadership position they really are are seeking that information um each School uh submits one male one female and that is passed on to the high school league and then the high school league has the Monumental task of narrowing that down they will select the 32 to 36 finalists across the state that'll be announced at the earliest end of January more than likely the first week in February and this year our selections for the Excel award for our Representatives uh Eliza Rowan and William [Applause] mant guys are so good the condition the other High School league award is the AAA award and that is for seniors and it stand the AAA stands for Arts academics and Athletics and they really focus on just uh specifically all or any High School league activities whether it be the Athletics or a fine arts activity like speech or one act play and that um how that works is each School selects two they move on to compete you know use that kind of term loosely against the other uh schools in subsection 17 which is what we're a part of they'll be judged there they'll they'll get a chance to go there have a nice little meal give a little speech uh the judges will make their selection and select one male one female from subsection 17 to go on to compete at the section level and basically it's the same format there they'll get a chance to speak again uh they'll have another uh round of voting and then the top male and top female from our section will go on and compete at the state level and then once you advance that state level uh they take those top 32 and and they're awarded as the finalist for the AAA award this year for us we're very pleased just like we're pleased with all of our our recipients of these Awards um this year's recipients or representatives for Watertown mayor are Eleanor Rundell and Lonnie [Applause] Gilbert when are those competitions those speeches kind of the next steps the next steps um I think it's the 10th of January up at Maple Lake for the subsection part of it and then the following week the following Wednesday it'll be up in St Cloud and then after that it's um where it's where it's all announced um is typically during the state boys baset tournament y so okay awesome [Applause] congratulations and concert go some of them are singing oh yeah all right the audience is now shrunk had to go sing moving on to our action items the first action item a is the acknowledgement of donations contributions and fun fundraising which is resolution 2513 Mr Schuler yeah Mr chair um tonight I'd like to present our donation for the month of December and I'll start with the American Legion Post 121 uh donation to our food service department for $487 55 for our veteran State program so they're kind enough uh to pay us back for hosting the breakfast um and uh the food is delicious and uh we're very appreciative of that donation uh and to serve them on that day Gary and Susan Schmidt to the uh Band program for $250 um for again music program for the memorial for Gary Schmidt Bonnie B for the wown M basketball program $25 for future needs of the program Roy's electric LLC and that's a donation to robotics for $250 for robotic Parts Mona Schmidt also at robotics $50 robotic Parts uh arosi uh foundation for robotics for $1,000 um to help Grant the grant to help them in their event registration um also Hollywood Auto robotics for $250 for parts and Watertown Lions Club to uh wown a public schools for uh $3,360 for donation of trees just a side note on that one um Mr joso and I are are both members of the Lions uh here in Watertown and when uh there was an opportunity that Lions Clubs across the United States are giving back trees to their communities um as a part of their um their mission um so U Mr juk took the motion to ask the Lions to um pay for a number of trees I think it was about uh six or 10 trees uh that we were able to get as um a donation uh to put along Highway 25 uh if you you've seen uh some of the trees along Highway 25 in front of the high school have died um during the ash War um here in the last few years so um I appreciate uh Tim's ability to want to fix that and the Lions as well for trees and really nice three ordance trees and 're hopefully be there for a long time so thank you I'll make a motion to approve the donations contributions and fundraising second motion made by Mr felt seconded by Mr Burns any further discussion all those in favor say I I I'll oppose nay motion carries and thank you to those who um have donated to the district this last month um Item B the first read of the district policies requiring review Mr Schuler Mr chair uh you called me last month we um we made mention that uh MSB had come out more recently with um a group of policies they wanted just districts to be aware of for some some minor updates um this group was not on our regular rotation but are part of the msba updates that they provided uh last month so again um the policy committee virtually went through these with us um and were able to to weigh in um nothing of real significance um the biggest piece was probably the policy uh 721 which is some Grant guidance in terms of fredal Revenue sources and some caps in which that works um Mr Raider was nice enough to kind of weigh in on that and give us some guidance I don't know if there was anything you wanted to add to that but um we are asking for a first and only read um at this time and from a policy committee do you guys have any heartburn questions on any of those updates from msba no no okay it was pretty easy peasy this time sometimes they're like that sometimes carries and thank you to the policy committee for reviewing a little lighter lift this month than past months but um item C the 2526 school year calendar the first read Mr Schuler uh Mr chair and board uh we're bringing to you the first draft of the 2526 school year calendar um again I just want to say thank you to uh Mr Randell from the Teachers Association and uh Mr henen as well as Mrs huan um in putting the calendar together uh definitely a little more challenging this year and and and I've shared with you some of the the changes that you may want to make note of um but again um I think in the shift to trimesters there were some changes that needed to be made and maybe a few concessions as well but um just some things to note um the biggest one I not biggest but a number of those um we are changing the end date for the high school middle school it's going to be different from the um Elementary School uh and the reason being um in some of the survey work that Mr Randell does of of the staff and getting feedback uh one of the things the elementary was looking for was a a data to get ready for conferences it's something we have not had um that I'm aware of for a while um and that November 3rd Day in Orange as you can see that now will become a professional development day for the Elementary in order for them to to work on conference prep that also then uh takes away the day um the June um excuse me fourth day uh where they would now um have students or excuse me the June 3rd days they would have students on that day uh that would be the last day of school for the high school middle school so we're just taking one PD away in June from the elementary um and putting that into March so that's just the a change in Dynamics there um they also um looking at the November 26th day um that is a staff development day uh before Thanksgiving that's a kind of a change but be no students on that day it'll be a PD day for staff um spring break as you can see probably is moved up uh to that second week in March uh off that traditional fourth week of March and we'll have a professional development day in advance of the spring break as well um again the reason for that date is again moving to a trimester that would be their last day of the grading period and be an opportunity for school to grade and then get ready for uh the new round of classes coming back after Spring Break um obviously that is a change and and there will be some tournaments and things going on we know that that's going to impact there could be some travel pieces uh aware we aware of as well with some groups that have typically traveled during that week and it so we're just going to have to kind of see how that plays out and possibly look for some alternative dates for those going into this next school year um and again it's a first time we've we've tried it under a trimester approach so there are going to be some pieces that we know that um we're going to have to review and get feedback on um some of the feedback we gave we got from parents um again they were in favor of more of that traditional full week Spring Break um that was you know um fairly well represented so um so those are some of the bigger highlights um again Good Friday um and Easter Monday uh for a weekend in April as well it's kind of a little bit of a change there too so um but it meets the requirements of of what we're looking for in terms of 101 171 uh student contact days 82 teacher days um and you can see the breakdown on the bottom of how the trimesters will play out uh 59 days in the first trimester 57 days in the second trimester and then 55 days um in the third trimester and so like I would say future years are we planning on getting the Elementary on the trimester schedule too to maybe eliminate that yeah extra day at the end of the year ideally I think we'd like eventually get there a full District day off yeah CU having somebody in multiple buildings MH whether it's one day off or or different ending of the calendars makes it a little bit challenging possibly for daycare yeah no and that this feedback we'll hope to receive you know we don't start the beginning of the school year on the same day either so if you look at it that way we're starting two days later for the Elementary on the beginning of the school year so um we'll see obviously we'll be looking for feedback um even looking at elementary conferences and moving those to a time that maybe aligns with the middle school high school and then I think that's just going to take a year or two to kind of get us all aligned but as long as we're working toward that M and I there'll be lots of conversations happening yeah I don't again I don't want to speak for Miss Connell but I think traditionally you know that sweet spot in November is a nice time for elementary conferences you've got two two week two months under your your belt and you've got a pretty good feel of where the students are at and um so but time will tell right but no thank you to everybody for all their hard work on getting this in place especially with the change to trimesters it's a lot of moving parts and got to try to keep everybody happy as much as you can Mr rell's in the room keep everybody happy right that's the try you try to uh I make a motion to approve the first read of the 2025 26 Calendar second motion made by Miss correct Mr Scher final read so all right that ends all the action items uh for the evening so moving on to the review and information uh Bond referendum we're still working on the bond my golly we sure are or a batement bond anyways um just some quick updates I'll be very brief um we were expecting railings to be installed uh at the SE see on the fire uh exit and the um the back of the auditorium and the high school uh door 7 uh that is is now move to tomorrow um so there were some issues with powder powder coating um if it was chipped when they dropped them off and it was not to satisfaction so they got sent back for some touch-up work and uh they'll be back out tomorrow get those done um our shed and Greenhouse are officially um uh have now have received occupancy so our final occupancy was awarded by the city of Watertown uh just a couple weeks ago and so that is now official um to be officially occupied um Kilmer our electricians are on site also and uh today they poured the bases for the path light uh the concrete base um so the path light should go up probably next week they'll give the concrete some time to settle there um and um most of that should be done next week they're still doing a few lighting um pieces on the buildings the emergency lights on the exterior um light packs are are still a few of those have to be installed but um we're getting hopefully to the Finish Line with Kilmer here by the first of the year um and then we have a punch list walk tomorrow so from the abatement Bond side um our uh Mike from Bolton bank will be back out with myself and um Jeff Leeman building ground director to walk the site and uh do a a final punch list on on those baitman Bond projects so and most of that work will have to be done in the spring so the punch work lists um we we wait till and then they're still working on the fencing at the CLC for the baseball field but they can do that in the winter time prefer to do that in the winter time to keep their staff busy exactly as well as are they doing something to the JV baseball field too fencing uh we're getting some new fencing in the back stop of the JB baseball field and the JB southb field will get a new Outfield fence this winter as well um installing it hopefully in January yes they can do it in January we'll see and last Mr because you had is it going to cost more because the frost no okay actually know yeah he gave us a little bit of a discount to say he wants to keep my crew busy I work all winter long and uh surprised us too but yeah no they must not get a lot of requests then for over the winter work no nobody thinks about it yeah yeah right exactly and lastly as Mr Burns mentioned I think from a pH facility side um we've been looking at um doing some Led uh Replacements um uh LED lighting projects in the CLC and the elementary and the high school um we've looked at uh what we can afford and what we can do with the rebates and and like Mr burn said the CLC and the high school will be the two um on the list to to complete so facilities committee met on that last week and finalized the numbers and like you said we've we've got some really significant savings especially at the CLC I think it really stood out to us as well it would be foolish not to take advantage of these rebates at this time we had up till December 15th uh to get those rebates for this year uh so we were able to to get that encapsulated in that time frame and the work should start sometime after the first of the year so um with a I think it need to be completed by March or may I think that time frame so um so solely the high school building not middle school high school middle school I believe was already all done with f and some of the high school so it's it's finishing the high school the stuff that didn't get touched with the fond money the elementary school is not getting the LED this time yeah we're going to pause on that one and um the Reb rebates weren't as great and this is they they rate Elementary buildings differently in their rebate plan than they do high schools with the thought of high schools are used more often the lights are on more often is kind of the theory behind that we learned a little bit our own on that and uh with the hope of eventually coming back and getting that Building completed too okay so and by changing out all the lights we'll have enough light bulbs hopefully to a DE y okay any other questions on the projects no no what are you guys going to do and we're done with all these projects you won have find to fill our time we won't have anything to talk about Wednesday wing wing it's just nice at do yes all right well thank you Mr Schuler moving on to the Strategic Plan update uh the only update today on the shic plan was uh this last week um I've been able to meet with the uh Elementary and the uh Middle School student councils and um we're kind of walking back a little bit off our spring survey if you recall um administratively we had some discussions of just kind of why did students answer the way they answered so this gave me an opportunity and Miss huan joined me and was my um recorder if you will um but we were able to really have some really good conversations uh when the student councils were meeting we were able to take half an hour of their time uh we also meet with the high school this week I think on Thursday but it's really nice to kind of take a deeper dive on just why do they ask what they what how they answered um and so um it was good and I'll be able to share some of that information back with the board uh and our admin team um just on ways we can continue to work on that strand of of building that culture um and making sure that kids have their needs met each day when they come to school and there are some interesting pieces I think that we picked up um on in in the time with them um and again just by Amazed by the the skill sets of our kids and just how willing they were to share and uh do a little deeper dive on some of those questions that on a survey you just don't get a lot of well what's the why and so um we're starting to get some good feedback but again we'll share that out um at a later date awesome any questions all right thank you Mr Schuler moving on to the admin reports Mr hennon you're all set for semester or trimesters and getting there so I have two quick updates for you one is the schedule update uh we we're in the process now of just getting ready for registration which usually takes place at the end of January um I'm on my another round of staff meetings just to go through each department what we're offering what we're not going to offer make sure all that is is accurate um they're in the process of proposing new classes and ideas pretty creative I mean it's there's going to be some some differences but I mean one of the things I'm pretty excited about there are some things we're going to be able to offer that we have not been able to ever do before just because of more availability uh the one thing I will be bringing back in January is for you to approve the updated graduation requirements in any courses I'll be running that by the district teaching learning committee first obviously the high school leadership team but we have to put staggered credit requir in cuz for example next year's kids will need we'll have a total of 66 68 70 72 so we'll have all that put in place um with along there's going to be two to three ideas of updated graduation requirements that we are going to ask you guys to approve as all students will have to take and again that will apply to next year's nth graders and possibly next year's 10th graders it won't impact next year's Juniors and seniors given we just didn't think that was fair with their last two years we don't to take things in their schedule so next next meeting all a little bit more specifics with again the plan is we are going to start registering at the end of January early February just like we always do so lot lot to do in the next few weeks but I think we're right on track and then lastly uh just to kind of tie in what Mr Schuler just said we actually the counselors let a they had an informal student check in they asked our kids three questions question one was I have at least one student one adult working at the school that cares about me and wants me to succeed question two was if you were willing to give an example or two of what that staff member did that showed you they they cared or want you to succeed and then question three is I have at least one classmate that cares about me and wants me to succeed I think we we're over 250 responses so far um which is you know over half our student body which is actually pretty good for a return rate for high school um 98% strongly agreed or agreed with they have at least one adult that cares about their wants them to succeed the answers were for number two were interesting because I think sometimes we misconstrue what it takes for a kid to think we care and like some just said you know they just asked me what I did this weekend they asked me if I had my homework done they asked you know they gave me help I think sometimes we don't understand like those little things matter to kids a lot more than what we probably don't understand so it's just good because I can bring that back to the staff and and they sometimes they list specific names so it's kind of cool that I can bring back to say you know you were mentioned x amount of times and so on and then question three about I at least one classmate again 98% strongly agreed or agreed so and again the counselors lead this up they're using as just a data point again to check with kids and just you know see how we're doing because kind of going back to what he said like the culture piece is obviously a really big deal so any questions for me thank you thank you Mr girton good evening everybody a couple of uh updates uh piggyback off of Bob Haden so we are working through our scheduling pieces High School is a little bit more sophisticated as you would expect uh but him and I are at a point now where we're really starting to look at courses and a lot of the alignment with shared staff so we started that conversation today so it is moving forward um and we're working really well together leadership teams will be involved we'll be meeting with departments in the middle school so as a whole we're just appreciative of how understand uh the staff has been with this transition uh the second thing is just a kind of a a bragging piece for us our student council we have just a phenomenal uh group of kids working with us Mr Schuler had an opportunity to talk with our kids they recently ran ran a um toy drive in the middle school called the 12 days of giving and they partnered with Bremer Bank our kids ended up generating 247 toys that were brought in and almost 17 $100 in cash and then the kicker in all this was Mrs sink sank decided she was going to take them to Target wakia shopping to blow the $1,700 on more toys we had lists of toys it was very organized uh they weren't allowed to hang out at Starbucks and they ended up purchasing more toys and some gift cards so just a tremendous um just a very generous Community here I guess is what I want to say so just proud of our kids and thankful for the community and Families we have quite a few families that are really going to be thankful uh that don't don't have funds to purchase toys so we had lots of lists so very appreciative that's it awesome thank you thank you thank you Miss Connell last Tuesday at the elementary we had our first family engagement evening of this year called glow not to be confused with an opportunity for people to Glow about our school it was an actual glow event so we had black lights all over the school that our PTO purchased um so this event expanded on a popular and beloved activity from Miss christensen's Innovation program transforming it into a two-hour experience for students and their families to enjoy together Miss Christensen and Miss dears collaborated to Showcase their specialist programs through an interactive m Museum Wing that took up our whole kindergarten space of the school um this featured stunning artwork in simple circuits that illuminated a lightning bugs glow when you pressed upon it all set of glow under black lights in the cafeteria families enjoyed Sweet Treats applied glow-in-the-dark temporary tattoos and explored coloring sheets designed for highlighters students then brought their glowing creations and body art into the gym which was lit only by 13 black lights inside families discovered a variety of exciting stations including glow-in-the-dark face paint friendship bracelets with luminous beads glow bracelets a constellation station and an art table where students could create masterpieces with fluorescent oil pastels and Mr rosol was rocking some tunes throughout the evening some student appropriate some that were more like Rave kind of music without any words um amid the fun students were captivated by how their clothing glowed under the black lights moving around in the open space of the gym with Fascination and joy feedback so far has been overwhelmingly positive with students eagerly asking when can we do it again so it was a really fun evening it was the quickest I will say that we've gotten families out of the building usually I make an announcement thanking people for coming this time I did that same announcement but we had to flip Breakers back on for the lights to turn on I felt sort of like a barkeep cuz the lights came on and everyone just scattered out of the building probably cuz they were all covered in face paint um the second update is we have an upcoming event on January 16th from 4:30 to 6: and that is our kindergarten Royal Roundup so that we'll have that coming up already time to find our new class of kindergardeners we have postcards in the process of being mailed out by the um Herold Journal um we've already met as a kindergarten team and Specialists to plan those activities to welcome them in and showcase what a day is like in our building we've got Got High School Royals who have volunteered to help with child care again for that evening when was that again January 16th Thursday January 16th from 4:30 to 6 tours ahead of time from 4: to 4:30 any questions no thank you thank you thank you miss dimler all right hello so I am excited to share that our license expansion is finally official we are approved um to now serve 77 um infant through thir uh three-year-olds um so we have started accepting additional kids and started the transition with our three-year-olds and we are working to hire a new toddler teacher so we can bring in more kids uh we are also going to be next year as we start looking at programming for next year going to offer in our child care our four and 5-year-old Child Care a Child Care Plus preschool so kids that come full day for four or five days a week they will get preschool as part of their child care so one rate um they'll get preschool programming so we are really excited to see what that looks like and on January 23rd one week after the kindergarten Royal Roundup we're going to have the preschool open housee um so we hope everybody will join us for that um and registration will open up for preschool and that uh Child Care preschool class on that night and then our child care uh registration will open up March 3rd so we're looking for forward to what that will look like for next year and we're also really excited that right now Aquatics is just kind of our hot program going on um our fall program has ended um we had 154 participants who participated in swimming lessons um 135 of those were unique participants or individuals we had 17 private swimming lessons or 72 CL classes and five water exercise five water exercise classes so we just have had the pool rocking with activities so we are really excited about that and we don't have to worry about it breaking down um tomorrow night we have our community ad advisory um so if you're interested please join us at 6 o'clock and over winter break uh the Community Learning Center will be open on Thursday and Friday uh December 26th and 27th and we do have early bird laap swimming going on um over winter break so if you want to jump in the pool we have that going on from 6:00 to 7:30 a.m. so do you all still provide the walking yep okay Monday and Wednesday evenings from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. good so four times around the building is a mile all right any questions well thank you thank you Mr riew well thank you for the opportunity to be here I'll just touch briefly on all three of the areas curriculum we've been working with our Ela committees at all three of the buildings to get prepared or we're continuing that work to get prepared for implementation next year um our high school team has met two or three times they've got about two or three units where they've um aligned and updated their assessments make sure that uh we're aligning with our standards and that we're um assessing at the appropriate level of rigor so they've been working hard on that middle school has been meeting and transferring their uh their work um from both of those I haven't necessarily heard much about potential purchases at this point in time uh they're kind of working within what they've got and that could come uh down the line a little bit I know Middle School is particularly interested in um inabi literature and if they want to they're going to debate on whether or not they want to look at novels or if they want to look more at excerpts or articles or that so they're they'll be looking at that uh as we go through um and Elementary continues to look at Ela and the the purchasing there uh professional development um so obviously some of that that with the alignment is falls under the professional development umbrella um our phase one teachers that were not letters trained had our first science of reading um live session last Tuesday a week ago um they have three sessions so by the time we get to I believe April we'll have all of our phase one teachers uh science of reading trained and stamped ready to go um again the people who were not in that group were high school special ed a couple of Administrators new teachers to the district so we're getting everybody in there wrapped up uh and uh Dr cnra kamphoff will be joining us on January 20th for part two of her three-part session on Beyond grit so that we're looking forward to that and then assessment we're just doing some behind the scenes things for MCAS already believe it or not we're talking about accommodations modifications and non-disclosure agreements and getting that stuff uh going and then we'll look at February and March um training of teachers and preparation for April testing and then when right when we come back after winter break we will be doing our winter fast screening right through January 17th any questions thank you thanks Mr Schuler thank you Mr chair um just my report just really talks about that giving as well and and I Mr girton hit on the uh middle school I'll just highlight a few other groups that have really stepped up to the plate and gave back to our community um he mentioned the seventh and eighth grade middle schoolers uh almost $1,700 donated and 247 toys I think Miss huan had the opportunity to help transport some of those from the uh Bank to back to the elementary school full mini full full van full so pretty cool um and again um just things that we've done in the last couple months the oober uh was another opportunity where the elementary Don made I think over 500 pairs of socks to homeless shelters the German class did a similar um type of Socktober Fest I think 1600 socks given back to um The Gather and grow Food Shelf to to be distributed and then also um the homecoming organizers who organize a homecoming dance gave back about $1,500 to the um the student council gave back to gather and grow as well um so just a lot of neat things happening also the mittens of Hope is another opport for families to um be identified and and in need and uh during the holiday season so uh the elementary has um given back to about 20 families uh and the middle school about 14 families and the high school is five families have been identified so a lot of what we've talked about um and staff donations Community donations are going out to these families to make it a really cool holiday for for their families um back on December 4th again just a really neat event um the commission of Aging in town does a senior dinner I think about 140 seniors attended and it's a really delicious meal uh prepared by uh Marketplace food but the neat thing is our band and our choir um and our our student council our national IR Society all come down and and help serve uh our seniors and so it's just a really good opportunity for our students uh to give back and and see some of the talents of some of our kids uh participating in band and choir and just we get so many nice comments I know Amy dimler works that every year and it's a big part of organizing that and it's really cool to hear the comments of the community members that are really appreciative of our kids and our kids taking time how they're busy schedules to do that too is pretty neat so um just really goes to show that U we have caring kids they're compassionate and they want to get back to their community so um pretty neat during this season lastly uh certainly not least we do have a uh board member who's going to be recognized today for completing level one 2 three and four training um Mr Jim Burns um Vice chair uh will be presented uh the completion of the the school boards Association phase one two and three and four um that just came in the mail this week so again congratulations Mr Burns I don't know if you want to do the the handshake the official handshake board CH do the official handshake thought you should get a picture of that there we go they are DS I hope the rest of you can keep up I already did I already did M I've done them twice so so I'll be going on my second room you all got a lot to catch up to yeah so congratulations Mr Burns thank you for your time and effort I know that is a time commitment and and uh they're doing a lot of these now virtual which again we encourage all of our board members to participate and get those wrapped up because it is an important part of uh being a board member so thank you any questions for Mr Schuler all right moving on to uh board member reports nothing going on not much no committee meetings nothing this week we got a couple right Finance Southwest we're meeting tomorrow so okay and then tomorrow we have a finance and uh Community Ed so I'm a part of those um I'll give you guys then an msba quick update from the Minnesota School Board Association uh was it last weekend or two weekends ago we had the delegate assembly um I was under the I I I thought that the resolution that we had passed was going to be kind of mve forward and be part of potentially be part of their legislative priorities the resolution that we passed through was just think of it as a position paper so now it's a part of it passed by the way so now we have it as part of the msba legislative record so if some legislator comes up well what do you think about declining enrollment oh here's our position on it we need this type of funding got it um so that was a that was a learning experience for me but there was 28 resolutions that were brought up I think it was 127 board members across the entire State spent 5 hours discussing the 28 resolutions um 23 of them passed uh was just very interesting to kind of hear how the debates went for certain ones the ones that I thought were going to be contentious everybody agreed with the ones that were like oh this is a slam dunk ended up being debated hotly um and again those were those resolutions were just kind of like position papers if you will um msba does have their legislative priorities document out there it was approved by the board um so at this or the Del actually um so that's something in January at our meeting I would like to work on creating ours so please complete that survey I'd sent out um and if you want to be a part of that that delegate assembly please let me know um it's at it's in Bloomington it's an overnight uh event two-year commitment um so please just let me know that uh one of the other speakers we had on uh the first night uh kind of gave a political update on sort of with how things are going to go long story short Minnesota we have a divided control it's equal on both sides um and it's a budget season recession so quote it's going to be ugly um and there's a real chance there's going to be a special session we probably will not know by July 1st on what the formula funding will be and no one's going to agree to anything along those lines so um strong indications unfunded mandates the money will not be coming to fund those unfunded mandates and simple terms less money uh keeping the mandates it is sort of coming out of the the Minnesota Legislature um let's see I have um leadership conference uh 16th and 17th of January we do have as I mentioned last month Mr henon and M oconnell are actually both presenting at the conference I think one each day I believe um so if you do show up please attend their sessions I know I'll be there in person sitting there um Mr Hon's going to be talking about our CTE program and kind of how that's you know helping our kids and Miss Connells going to be discussing the playworks which is the um recess program that we have and kind of how that's working also to the day group's going to have a booth so uh Ron wilky is going to be there and they're going to be recording videos from school board members so if you do show up please do a video as to why Public Schools matter I have to get my speech all figured out too day at the capitals March 10th uh me and Mr uh Schuler are planning on attending to be able to talk to our legislators at Capital the capital in St Paul so um and we're going to be bringing our priorities document for that to try to talk to our folks in addition to that uh we have reached out to all of our legislators this week um trying to see if we can bring them in house or set meetings prior to that come and see what we're doing here you know before you hit the ground running or you know try to influence a little bit that way um one other item and then I'll be done talking um M oconnell was actually accepted for a presentation at cosbo which is the Consortium of State School Board Association so she's going to be going down it's a national conference down in Atlanta unfortunately when is it in the summer it's in March oh that's better okay um unfortunately I'm unable to attend this one I'm on the Slate to go next year uh timing was a little bit bad for me so unfortunately I will not be attending with her but I'll just read her highlight or description of the uh what she's going to be presenting on this session highlights our District's journey journey in increasing educator advocacy through highquality professional development with a focus on science of reading instruction via letters training we'll share how the implementation of research-based best practices collaborative approaches through Collective efficacy Cycles I struggle with that word and datadriven focus have reshaped our instructional practices with strategic changes to the master schedule and allocation of instructional midnit alongside a robust mtss framework we've seen remarkable results we've reduced tier three interventions in kindergarten and first grade by 14% in just two years moving just from 51% of students in the tier one range to 77% so sharing our success story not just on a local level or a state level but now it's even going to be on a national level so we just found that out woohoo this week Fray congratulations that's awesome exciting yeah so congratulate her on that one and you know it's it's stuff like that that help get us our name out there and you know we need to proud of what what we're doing here we're doing a lot of good things [Music] so that is that'll be an article in the newspaper right
