put your passion into action running for city council is a powerful way to bring positive change directly to your community but before you hit the campaign Trail there are a few important steps you need to take first off pick up a candidate packet from the city clerk's office candidate packets will be available 2 weeks before the filing period the city clerk's office will go over the packet with you to review the documents you'll need to file as a candidate and other important information as part of this packet you'll need to fill out an Affidavit of candidacy this document formally announces that you are running for Council next you will need to get at least 25 signatures from registered voters within your represented District this demonstrates that you have initial support as a candidate for city council it's a good idea to get more than the minimum of 25 signatures in case any of them aren't actually registered remember that these signatures can only be obtained during the designated filing dates for the election once you have 25 signatures and have filled out your Affidavit of candidacy you are ready to file simply turn in your documents along with a $25 filing fee to the city clerk's office and that's all there is to it just remember to mark your calendar and have your documents in before the filing date closes learn more about the filing process and other requirements at www.brooklyn.com

[Music] my name is Luc Sagal and I've been a member of the cat for about 11 years I work at a local church and I'm the director for Latino Ministry my name is Guy Johnson so I was a member of the seac for about 7 years cat was a place where I could come and show the presence of our Latino families but also be a voice for the Latino families what droing to the CAC it was the um ability for me to be able to bridge that gap between the community and the police department so this was an opportunity that I took on and I decided that this would make a difference in how they would see the police but also how the police would see them I think honestly Ambassador is the best way to describe it we are in this space that we can all collaborate we can all share information and we can all Thrive I am someone that can bring and take information and then help Community understand more about what the work that we're doing and how it affects them I believe we need to have people that are also passionate about what they do we're not just beting here once a month to just come here and sit at a table and just talk we're here to make a difference in the community
