position that was recently vacated and david is here with us welcome david thank you scott nice to meet you all how are you nice to see you again yeah yeah absolutely i'm doing really well thank you i don't know i don't watch this or not ipad marilyn hi hi marilyn we can hear you if you'd like uh you can mute and keep watching or or you can keep there but we've been able to there you go all right uh david a little different than the last time we spoke obviously with the situation or coved so i'm glad you can make virtually and you've kind of been in the process before um but why don't you just start for any public who's watching let us know um a little bit about you and why you'd like to be on the park commission yeah absolutely thank you thanks for the opportunity um so a little bit about myself is you know from minnesota originally um moved around a fair bit but right and but i've settled in shorewood about he's coming up on two and a half years now um moved here at the family um from downtown minneapolis and just recently actually right after our last uh last interview in march i uh started a new role at a new organization called bandco payments they do payment processing for churches and schools so k through 12 organizations so just kind of a community-based organization um so i've been doing that for about you know six months now so the world's world's a little bit new uh but it's been been a challenging time so but i think yeah so that's a little bit about what i am i i think just for reference too i do i am the go to markets go to market operations director there so really that means i focus on our sales performance doing some bringing some analysts and reporting uh trying to provide some insights to our leadership team as well as run our salesforce platform so it's the you know salesforce crm uh platform we use uh so it's who i am on a professional level um but i think what's more important is really you know my interest in in the parks department here at least more relevant for you all um you know like i said i joined moved to shorewood about two and a half years ago with a young family we actually just had our second child two and a half weeks ago now so so a whole new lots lots of changes everything's new for us now um but you know we're still playing one-on-one so i think they're called playing man defense right now and they haven't had to move to zone coverage yet so we're still doing all right um so now it's so with the young family and and just really setting our roots just where i want to be in the long haul so it's you know i thought this was a great opportunity to to contribute to the community i live in uh take take part in something that i utilize and one of the things that drew us to shorewood were you know the access the quantity quality and access of the parks we live right on the the minnetonka light rail trail it backs up to our property so we have definitely a vested interest but it's also just something that you know we've been utilizing and i want to make sure that it's you know maintained and there's a long-term vision for it as well um you know for young family we plan to be here for a long time so that's kind of where where i'm coming from my perspective on it obviously building things for everyone but i want to make sure we keep the eye to the future okay so uh i just gotta say that i'm warning you right now that uh your story is the exact same as mine so uh in three or four years you could find yourself on council so i too i'm a go to market leader for my firm i i am from minnesota i moved out to the new york city new jersey area i know t-neck well then i moved to shorewood i became a commissioner and then that was my gateway drug to council careful what you wish for here yeah i think it'd be i don't know if that's the long-term plan or not but it's one of those things where i wanted it's a great opportunity to get started in it and if that's where you know if i end up on in the commissioner role or movement moving a different role i'm not opposed to it just trying to learn what it's all about i started out as a commissioner with the intent of not doing anything more than a commissioner uh and very quickly found my way to council and it's been rewarding yeah i'm glad you mentioned the bike trail and the bike trail is not our park technically but we do work with the uh three rivers park district on it and we've had uh some very good leadership there that's been interested in helping us uh support that trail by adding a destination stop in freeman park we're looking forward to a sign package that they've talked about putting in off the trail and maybe uh having some parking spaces for bikers you know that may be designated or something like that so it is important to think that is part of our our parts in a way and we do uh we do help manage that as well as you know we do uh i know some of us report when there's issues with the trail whether it's washouts or tree branches that have been put you know in the wrong place that kind of stuff so and they do connect our parks as well so that's nice that you have that experience i know even in this time a lot of people are outdoors i personally just i went to my dermatologist a week ago and i said i've never been so tan i'm a person that rarely tans so and he said that's true of all everybody because there's not much else to do but get outside and enjoy the parts go golfing whatever it is the lake so even during this time parks are a critical part of our our city's benefits so um appreciate your insight on that yeah absolutely i think you're a great candidate when we interviewed you the first time it was you know uh we had you just tried to do your best with us in front of you at that time and i'm really glad that you came back and talked to us again so i think you'd be a great addition to the park commission well thank you i appreciate that david welcome and thank you again uh for continuing your interest a question though uh with your brand new baby and your brand new job do you uh are you able to you know also give the time needed for the park commission yeah that's a very fair question um and yes i do believe i will be able to it's um yeah i think you know though there definitely obviously there's gonna be a lot of times where it's challenging you know balancing priorities uh but i've got a very supportive wife helping me out and well let's be honest running the house uh and and she's you know i think together we know we can commit this is something that's definitely a manageable responsibility something that i can certainly commit to and up all the responsibilities of yeah i can see that's very evident you've got what it takes thank you yeah david i just want to also say thank you for applying again and i think you'd be a very welcome addition thank you driver anything any other question it doesn't seem i mean the council is a bit familiar with you already so yeah those watching were kind of uh at an advantage to maybe some others um you are familiar with the schedule for the parks commission i know so yeah um and uh and the time commitment it takes so uh i don't know did you have any new questions of the council in terms of priorities or the way our projects have been handled or changed or anything yeah i don't i don't have a lot of questions prepared for the meeting to be honest with you um i think it's it's one of those experiences where i want to you know get in understand and learn i know that's going to be a big part of you know if you try to get the role be a big component of is understand how we how you do things how you run around the parks department and just building building on what you've already established so i think it's a you know i can read the plans and and understand what what is in the works but it'll be you know getting involved maybe the exciting part yeah i know that uh badger park has gone through uh quite a extensive remodel over the last few years and we're finally closing in on finishing those changes i think the park commission has been looking at what's called the shorewood community park which is just off of highway 7. it used to be a former skate park a few years ago until the equipment kind of reached its end of life and so there's more questions i think recently to that park and what the benefit is uh or what benefits we should put use that park or that land for um as well as uh silver park i think is the other one silver wood park silverwood uh silver wood is uh again is uh one of our older parks now is the point or its age that we need to start considering what um improvements need to be made there what maintenance items need to be built there so those are kind of my recollection of where the parks commission is at this time one recommendation i would have is uh getting from marie darling the park tour packet that council members and park commissioners did uh was just kind of a quick framework to go tour all the parks and consolidate some of your thoughts on where improvements could be made yeah excuse me that's uh if you would call it i think that'd be a great way also to you know better familiarize myself with what the partner you know get a more in-depth knowledge of what the parks are the conditions and and what you know what i guess the potential improvements would be great i'm sure you'll be a quick learner and a great addition to the parks commission thank you i like to tell myself i am at least very good i i don't see any other questions we will be discussing it in the near future and our staff will get back to you with the results i'm sure it will be uh not too long from now and uh we appreciate again you uh coming before the council and expressing your interest and volunteering your time absolutely it's um you know i appreciate that i appreciate the opportunity and you know hopefully i get the opportunity to move forward with the parks department if not i'll just keep my eye open for the future opportunities as well so appreciate appreciate the opportunity well we appreciate that kind of spirit thank you so much thanks david thank you yeah that's it everyone have a great evening thank you bye bye bye um i don't know if there's any other discussion from the council if there's not i would look for a motion to adjourn and then we'll start our city council meeting at seven o'clock i'll make a motion to adjourn i'll second that motion motion by johnson second by labidy roll call vote johnson hi rabity aye cycle hi sunberg yep and is everybody's eye also we stand adjourned we'll see everybody at seven thanks adios
