PURPOSE The purpose of this policy is to set forth the procedures for admission to Park Spanish Immersion Elementary School. ## II. GENERAL STATEMENT OF POLICY St. Louis Park Public Schools is committed to providing equitable access to outstanding immersion education, and to providing Spanish immersion education opportunities to as many interested students and families as possible. ## III. DEFINITIONS TBD - Date to be determined on an annual basis. Sibling - One of two or more children or wards related by blood or adoption through a common legal parent; or through the marriage of the children's or wards' legal or biological parents residing in the same household of a student enrolled at Park Spanish Immersion in grades K- 4, at the time the child makes application. District Employee – Any individual who receives a paycheck from the district related to work at any site or in any department. This does not include independent contractors. Native Spanish Speaker - An individual who acquired Spanish as their first language, typically growing up in a household or country where Spanish is the primary language of communication. Preschool - an educational and developmental service for children from 33 months through 5 including, Early Learning Pre-School and Kids Place Pre-School. ## IV. KINDERGARTEN ADMISSION A. The total number of seats available for students entering kindergarten will be determined on an annual basis by the Superintendent, with a goal of maximizing access to Spanish immersion education for interested students and families. B. If Park Spanish Immersion has more applications for Kindergarten enrollment than seats available, the District St. Louis Park Public Schools will conduct a lottery to determine which students will receive seats. The District ## St. Louis Park Public ## Schools must give priority to (not in specific priority order): a. enrolling siblings of currently enrolled students, b. students whose applications are related to an approved integration and 545-1 achievement plan, c. children of the school district’s St. Louis Park Public Schools staff, and d. students who are native Spanish speakers as defined in Section III, and e. students who spent at least two years in St. Louis Park Public Schools preschool , and f. Additionally,the district students who are St. Louis Park Public Schools must give priority to St. Louis Park residents, although any limit on non-resident students under the Enrollment Options Law must comply with School Board Policy 509 and Minn.
