Uh the folks who have been uh with us throughout the entire summer to help uh support all of our activities that happen throughout the summer. And so, I'm going to pass it on to Lisa to make the introductions and then I'm going to present them with their uh with their uh certificates. >> Yes. Good evening, Mayor Muhammad and councilmembers. I'm here tonight to recognize our wonderful youth volunteers that have been out in our summer playground programs this summer. Um This is a great program for them to gain job experience, leadership uh leadership qualities, um and just be a part of their community. This program has been around for 39 years. Um and each summer it continues to grow. I think every year I come here we have like one or two more volunteers, which is great. So, we're up to 50 this summer. um which is amazing. That's the most we've ever had since um I've been here for 16 years. So, um it's great to see them at their involvement. These junior leader junior leader volunteers are ages 12 to 15. Um they're logging over 1,500 hours out in our playground program. They provide assistance to our paid staff. They help lead games, crafts, and other activities. We value having them in our park program to and strive to prepare them with the skills they'll need to continue as a paid leader when they're older or in the future for future career opportunities. Please help me recognize their dedication to our summer program and making a difference in our participants' lives and their summer program experience. >> [applause] >> Okay. I'm going to pass I'm going to pass it on to Council member Baldwin to read that. >> All right, thank you, Mayor. It's an honor to read this proc- proclamation observing National Purple Heart Day. Whereas National Purple Heart Day honors those who were wounded or killed in combat as active members of the United States military. And whereas the Purple Heart medal originates from the badge of military merit given by General George Washington in 1782 and has evolved as a symbol of merit and sacrifice. And whereas St. Louis Park is dedicated to ensuring veterans are included in the fabric of our community and honored for their service. And whereas veterans face complex challenges after their courageous service including but by no means limited limited to navigating access to veterans benefits, experiencing post-traumatic stress and adjusting to civilian life. And whereas the city of St. Louis Park proudly employs military members and veterans and makes concerted efforts to highlight the unique skills and experiences veteran veterans bring to the workplace including supporting our military employee resource resource group. And whereas it is important to recognize the sacrifice and courage of veterans and Purple Heart recip- recipients and advocating for the support and inclusion of veterans is one way to continually honest their honor their service. Now therefore, let it be known that the mayor and city council of the city of St. Louis Park, Minnesota hereby observe National Purple Heart Day in our community. >> [applause] >> Thank you, Council Member for reading that. Um anybody have any comments in regards to that? Yep, go ahead, Council Member. >> I do. I'd encourage people that regularly follow our meeting to take a look at the agenda packet cuz it's got some links on there to various articles about veterans and their struggles here back in our community. And and the vast majority do find transitioning back to civilian life but a good portion of them do struggle with chemical addiction problems, um mental health challenges, uh questions about whether or not their service was worth it after they've been engaged in wars like Afghanistan or Iraq. And uh from my point of view, we don't do enough for our veterans in this country. And we should continue to treat them as the precious resource they were and are for us. And anybody that knows a veteran that needs help, please let us know. Reach out. There are resources available and we're happy to assist them and do whatever we can to say thank you to them for the sacrifice and service they gave to our country. >> Thank you, Council Member. Hm. Any discussion? >> Yes, please. >> Councilman >> One of the things that we have on here number 5B is the resolution approving the 2025 audit and comprehensive financial report. And we reviewed this at the last study session we had. It was voluminous, over 175 pages and more appendixes attached to it. And staff did a great job presenting to us and explaining it to us. And for the uh 43rd consecutive year, we we received some type of financial reporting award, which is all good. But the more important thing was we had an absolutely clean audit this time with no recommended changes or anything like that on it to our practices that were ongoing. And that's just a tribute to the the finance department staff and the work they're doing here and the rest of the staff for their contributions to it, too. So, uh it reports like that allow us to maintain this triple A bond rating that we have and and makes it cheaper for the city to borrow money when we need to and that saves all our taxpayers money, too. So, it's all good news and I'm just really proud of the city for getting this good financial report. >> Thank you, Councilmember. Any others? Okay. Uh you forgot to say Councilmember forgot to say money well spent. >> Oh, yes. I note that the annual or the monthly disbursements were also in there and that does seem to be money well spent. Members of the Council, I'm Amanda Scott Lerdahl, Deputy City Clerk. This public hearing relates to an on-sale 3.2 malt liquor license and an on-sale wine liquor license for Taste of India, Minnesota Incorporated doing business as Taste of India. The city received an application from Taste of India for an on-sale malt liquor and wine liquor licenses for the property located at 5617 Wayzata Boulevard. This business is currently operating as a restaurant and the owners are projecting a closing date of sale of August 7th, 2026. The new owner is Diljit Singh or D.J. Kosa. Because the business is being sold to a new owner, a public hearing for a new liquor license is required. The restaurant location is described on the application as a full-service Indian restaurant which has been in operation since 1995. The premises comprises approximately 4,250 square feet indoor seating only seat seating capacity of 110 diners. Mr. Singh will be the sole owner and will serve as our designated store manager for the license. The police department has run a full background investigation and nothing was discovered that would warrant denial of the license. The application also meets the requirements of zoning and building divisions. So, you are asked this evening to first open the public hearing, take uh public testimony, close the public hearing, and then consider a motion to approve the liquor license from Taste of India, Minnesota Incorporated. Thank you very much, Mayor. The first one I have is just to remind people that we are in the midst of early voting for the state primary election. That election will uh election day uh for that is uh August 11th. Um but until then, we have uh early voting available here at City Hall daily from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. We're also going to have extended hours this Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. and then on Monday, the August 10th, from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. On election day, though, on the 11th, um you need to go to your designated polling place. If you have any questions about where that is, please um reach out to staff here um at City Hall, and we'd be happy to help you identify your polling place. Uh the other announcement that I have is a reminder about a celebration that's happening this Saturday, so go vote and then come to celebrate. Um and this is out at Westwood Shopping Center at Cedar Louisiana. They are celebrating their 72nd anniversary of the shopping center being in existence and the third third anniversary of Ol' Sub Brewing as well. So, there's lots to do out there. Pick up some delicious Mediterranean cuisine. We have Chinese cuisine. We have a new pizza place out there and go and celebrate with them. That is going to be happening from 12:00 to 10:00 p.m. >> All right. And then tomorrow's going to be National Night Out. So, I hope you have a block party to go to. If not, go to your neighbors. If not them, go to somewhere else. This is going to be a great time. When you're I think there's a neighborhood I don't know which neighborhood is that that does pizza. They do their own they make their own pizza. They have a pizza oven and they make their own pizza. So, yeah. I can I have to remember which neighborhood it is. But yeah, go out. It's going to it's going to it's a great time to be in in community with each other. I think after a long long long year of this year, it's definitely much more it's needed. And yep, go ahead and have some more. >> I just like to follow up on the announcement about Westwood Shopping Center having their 72nd anniversary celebration this weekend. And and those businesses have really been scuffling because of the construction issues this year. Some of them were down 20 to 50% in revenues and it's hard for small business owners to survive and I spent some time talking with Dan Olsberg who who's heading up this group to hold this celebration this weekend. And he noted that a small business like that can do a month's worth of business in one day if people show up. And there's going to be games for kids. There's going to be activities going on there that should make it a really fun time. So, I'd encourage anybody that's got some free time this Saturday to make your way over there. None of the heavy construction will be going on. Voting actually won't be going on on Saturday, so you don't get to vote first on that day. But, please do consider coming over and joining your neighbors over there at Westwood Mall.
