Five former mayors of Weisetta gathered for a special edition of "Mayor About Town" to share stories from their combined 57 years of leadership spanning from 1968 to 2020.

Current Mayor Andrew Mullen hosted Wayne Faden (1968-1974), Barry Pettit (1996-2004), Andrew Humphrey (2004-2008), and Ken Wilcox (2008-2020) for the televised discussion. The mayors represented five of seven living former mayors in the city's history, which has had 25 mayors since the late 1920s.

Each mayor reflected on major challenges during their tenure. Faden recalled navigating the controversial Highway 12 bypass project, which initially faced business community opposition but ultimately benefited retail development. Pettit cited the complex Big Woods development as his biggest challenge, while Humphrey discussed managing community divisions over development issues. Wilcox identified the 2008-2009 recession as the defining challenge of his 12-year tenure.

The mayors highlighted signature accomplishments including Faden's acquisition of the historic Weisetta Depot from Great Northern Railroad for one dollar, Pettit's development of the current city hall complex, Humphrey's shepherding of the Presbyterian Homes project approval, and Wilcox's comprehensive downtown revitalization efforts during the recession.

The discussion emphasized the importance of listening to residents and maintaining the city's tradition of post-meeting gatherings at the Weisetta Bar and Grill, a practice started by former Mayor Humphrey's father to build council unity. Mayor Mullen encouraged citizen participation in city boards and commissions, with opportunities typically available in fall 2025.
