Weisetta Council Member Parkill Steps Down, Moves to Utah
Weisetta City Council Member Jeff Parkill announced his resignation from the council during the September edition of "Mayor About Town," citing his wife's new job opportunity in Utah as the primary reason for the move.
Parkill, who served six years in various city roles including planning commission and city council, will step down in October. He was first appointed to the planning commission in 2017 and later won election to the city council in 2021 after an unsuccessful 2020 campaign. During his tenure, Parkill worked on major projects including Panaway and Lakewalk developments, served on the zoning study task force, and participated in the dock committee.
"We're going to go to Utah, live there, and then she'll commute out of Salt Lake City to other places that she needs to go," Parkill said during the televised interview with Mayor Andrew Mullen. He emphasized that the family intends to return to Weisetta as full-time residents in the future.
Dan Cook will replace Parkill on the council. During his farewell remarks, Parkill praised Weisetta as "an amazing world-class city but still got that Mayberry feel" and expressed confidence in the current leadership team.
